There are good people in this world. My dog has been found.

Somebody found my dog that had gone AWOL. She is a beautiful yellow lab and I was
really upset. Pepita is coming back home.

How relieved you must be! You must have been frantic. I panic when I can't find one of my cats for 20 minutes and they never go outside.

Welcome home, Pepita!!!

I bought a Tractive (brand) tracker that works anywhere there is cell phone coverage. It runs on a smart phone or, tablet within wi-fi range.

Highly recommended for wayward dogs (or cats).

AFAIK, they only work if someone with an iPhone is withing Bluetooth range of the tracker(?). The Tractive works anywhere there is cell coverage (it uses GPS to track the critter and cell phone to transmit the location in real-time to one's smart phone or tablet).

Doesn’t the Tractive need a monthly subscription?

they have to be within Bluetooth distance of the tracker. That works for busy places like downtown or airports but would not work reliably at all in the country or in a lot of urban areas. IIRC, the iPhones also have to be enabled by the user to participate in the service.

Yeah, Tractive does require a subscription but IMO it is well worth it because it works so well.

Once upon a time I had a cat that was my soulmate and she disappeared, it nearly drove me crazy looking for her. I never did find out what happened to her, still hurts.

So glad you found your sweetie!!

The fire department wouldn't help. Their answer was, "don't worry, he will come down". That is most certainly not always true. A friend of mine turned me on to his friend who is an arborist. He volunteer to make the rescue. He went up the tree five times to get the little fool. We finally trapped him in a humane trap. The trick was to disguise the trap with a blanket from his cat bed and one of my sweaty t-shirts in the cage bottom.

The rescuer refused to take any money, but I finally talked him into a meal for him and his girl friend at a swank restaurant this Sunday. There are still some heroes in the world.

I still have occasional recurrent nightmares about my dog being lost, a beautiful wolf/german shepherd....
but she died many years ago!

(she had a bad habit of wishing to roam, but I never actually lost her, until she died after a surgery...)

I have dogs and cats out here on the farm (and horses but they rarely run away) and I would die without them all.

Whenever they go off for an hour or 4, I am losing it and annoying everyone around here.

I am so happy for you. Labs are wonderful (all dogs are but...)

our Siamese cat wandered off. She is an indoor cat...we searched the neighborhood facebook groups put up signs... No luck. Then my daughter tried one move time...and a lady called her. She had the cat...she was four houses down on the same street! She was getting attached and had planned to keep her. Someone had posted that we must of found our cat because he saw her in our yard...I thought he was messing with me...I drove all over Ohio looking for this cat...she was over two months.
