Trump says Secret Service probing 'sabotage' of escalator at UN

(Reuters) -President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the Secret Service was investigating what he described as “sabotage” at the United Nations, alleging that an escalator malfunction, a teleprompter failure and sound problems disrupted his appearance at the world body a day earlier.

Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, said an escalator carrying him and his wife Melania “came to a screeching halt” on the way to the main floor, nearly causing them to fall. He called for the arrest of whoever was responsible.

He also said his teleprompter went dark at the start of his speech and that world leaders in the hall could not hear him because the sound system had failed.

"Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!" Trump wrote.

8. I can fully understand the orders to investigate this to its maximum.

Clown trump has done such a massively successful job of cleaning major cities of all major crime that there is nothing else left for the Secret Service to investigate or diffuse. Just as the National Guard is now assigned to municipal gardening duties, thus should the Secret Service be placed in charge of mechanical maintenance. We certainly can't have their talents and our tax dollars going to waste when there are hours of billable time to fill.

During his ridiculous address to the U.N. General Assembly, Donald Trump covered quite a bit of ground, but his speech included a curious reference to, of all things, an escalator......

Evidently, the truth was more benign. NBC News reported:

The United Nations has concluded its one-day investigation into the mysterious halting of President Donald Trump’s escalator Tuesday as he arrived at the U.N. General Assembly. The accidental culprit? A White House videographer who most likely tripped a safety mechanism.

A U.N. spokesperson explained: “The escalator had stopped after a built-in safety mechanism on the comb step was triggered at the top of the escalator. The safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing. The [White House] videographer may have inadvertently triggered the safety function described above.”.....

All of this, of course, came before the public learned that it was a White House videographer that apparently triggered the escalator’s safety measures.

Kevin Kruse, a historian at Princeton University, noted soon after: “This is the perfect encapsulation of Trumpism — because of its obsession with imagery, the White House crew caused a problem but blamed it on other people, leading to MAGA making threats against the United Nations for their own screw up.”

A sinister event is waking up to find a horse's head in your bed. All these things are minor inconveniences with the exception of the sound system making it hard for attendees to hear him, which they probably viewed as a godsend.
