Trump announces 100% tariff on foreign-made movies

President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Monday he will be imposing a 100% tariff “on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.”

Trump did not specify when or how the tariff could be enacted.

If Trump follows through with his threat, it would mark the first time he’s essentially imposed a tariff on a service rather than a raw good.

He still had to exile eventually, though.

What left an impression on me is how
oppressive and toxic the country was,
while at the same time producing great
art and artists, some even beyond great..
what Joseph Campbell would call
sublime.

Russia has never known democracy and freedom.

We have. All the Trumpers can do is try to destroy
it... but as we've already seen, that is having
unintended consequences and is bound to fail.

An innate human dream. To be free.
To be caged, imprisoned, enslaved is abhorrent to humans.

But yes I agree, once experiencing freedom, it is much harder to
lose it.

There are many states and many different kinds
of people.

I already see Trump and co struggling to figure out
how to get control over it.... utter failure so far.

He's even trying to get other countries on side,
and this might be the breaking point for Magats.

Talk about STUPID!! Films made in America for Americans only?

Does he think that film studios and producers will absorb the costs to distribute films with International cinematography and themes?CGI goes only so far.

Well, there goes everything but local Indy films and AI slop.

Go to almost any movie, stay to the end of the credits, and there are all sorts of foreign companies and studio locations that are involved with either the filming itself or post production. Even "Americana" movies, filmed exclusively in the US, have foreign based studio or production companies involved.
Not because Americans won't do the work, but for the same reason China has such a large market share in manufacturing; it's cheaper to offshore the "sweat" work.
Movie and media producers know they won't get the seats in theaters if they have to charge enough to make money back for their investors and pay all the artists and production/crafts folk wages for living and working in the US.

Look at the credits for any modern movie, especially one that's special-effects heavy. Most of them either film or use special effects houses that are outside of the US. Films today are a global enterprise. Even the actors are a mix of nationalities, not just Americans. Look at a big movie like Dune. A movie from an American studio, by an American author, adapted for the screen by an American and a Frenchman, starring American, British, Swedish, Spanish, filmed by a French director filmed in various parts of Africa.

Trump Announces 100% Tariff on All Movies Made Outside the United States, Presumably Including Mel Gibson’s New Christ Saga

Mel Gibson, Donald Trump’s Hollywood ambassador, will have trouble with his latest movie.

Trump has announced a 100% tariff on all movies made outside the United States.

Gibson is shooting his two part “Passion of the Christ” sequel, and it’s not in Altoona, trust me.

Shooting is set for Rome, other locations in Italy, Morocco, and Israel.

It’s a two part movie that is costing Gibson, a Hollywood pariah, hundreds of millions of dollars.
