(56,930 posts)Though it should be sanctioned and the US needs to stop using its veto to protect Israel from consequences for its actions. I know this is a pie in the sky desire, but it's what I believe.

(12,316 posts)When they invaded Ukraine (twice). We didn't kick Sudan out for genocide in Darfur. We didn't kick Rwanda out for genocide.

(3,048 posts)to lessen tensions and hopefully work towards global peace and prosperity. Theres no reason to kick any nation out of the UN. It would serve no purpose.

Dialogue does not work with Israel.
Kicking it out would serve the purpose of reigning it in, finally holding it accountable and reestablishing respect for international law and the UN, whose authority and integrity have been damaged by Israel for decades.
There is also the small matter of the hundreds upon hundreds of UN workers Israel has murdered and the UN agency working for Palestinians that Israel smeared without evidence and successfully destroyed - causing great suffering not just in Gaza but in other Palestinian refugee camps in the Middle East.
What organization allows all this to happen with impunity? How long should Israel be permitted to act with impunity - until it completely destroys the UN along with Palestinians?

(3,048 posts)In the first few months there were very few here who would stand up for them. I would get heavily flamed for my position. In my opinion all aid should be cut off to Israel, and Israel should be dissolved. They never had the right to Palestinian land. The people of Israel should be repatriated back to their homelands, or where they want to go (but I absolutely do not want the fascist element in the US). But nonetheless, it makes no sense to me to kick them out of the UN. Frankly, it would make more sense to kick the US out at this point.

What to do with the descendants of the more than 700k Jews who were expelled or fled Arab nations?
What is the final solution here?

(68,307 posts)The reasoning was that not voting for Harris would send a message to the Democrats and then something something something would happen and everything would be marvelous.
Still waiting.

(1,002 posts)As others have noted, other countries weren't kicked out for similar things. What I think should happen is the removal of permanent veto powers. At the very least the US, China, and Russia have abused that power.

Key Actions by the United Nations:
Resolutions and Condemnation: In 1962, the UN General Assembly passed Resolution 1761, which condemned apartheid policies, and later, in 1973, labeled apartheid a "crime against humanity".
Suspension from the General Assembly: In 1974, South Africa was suspended from the General Assembly.
Mandatory Arms Embargo: Following a voluntary embargo in 1963, the UN Security Council made the arms embargo mandatory in 1977 through Resolution 418, and it was later strengthened.
[b]Oil Embargo: The UN General Assembly urged member states to stop supplying petroleum to South Africa, initiating efforts for oil sanctions in 1963.
International Convention: The General Assembly approved the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid in 1973, which came into force in 1976
Economic and Other Sanctions: General Assembly Resolution 1761 called for member states to impose economic and other sanctions, including breaking off diplomatic relations and ceasing trade with South Africa.
Boycotts and Suspensions: The UN requested states and organizations to suspend cultural, educational, sporting, and other exchanges with the apartheid regime.
Special Committee Against Apartheid: This committee was established to organize conferences, seminars, and promote action against apartheid globally

No, I don't believe that Israel should be removed from the UN, but there should be restrictive sanctions levied on Isreal for their actions against the people of Gaza.

Whilst what Netanyahu and his band of RWNJs is doing is appalling, weve not exactly been the shining example of human rights in the past century. And we dont like to sign international treaties because we dont like to be bound by them.
So
if anyones going to get kicked out, we can start with the security council bullies and work from there.
