Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is strongly considering running for Senate, she said on Wednesday, raising the prospect of adding yet another marquee name to what is already a crowded Democratic primary.
Crockett cited the Republican-led remap of the states congressional districts earlier this year as a reason she might seek higher office in an interview on SiriusXMs The Lurie Daniel Favors Show.
I am looking, she said. Because if you want to take my seat of 766,000 away, I feel like there has to be some karma in that to where I take your seat that is for 30 million away.
Crockett has emerged as a prominent and sometimes profane critic of President Donald Trump and Republicans since first winning election in 2022. She ran for her partys top post on the House Oversight Committee in the summer, assailed Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greenes bleach blonde, bad built, butch body and drew criticism for referring to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as Governor Hot Wheels.

(52,823 posts)D+40 atm. TX-33 is atm represented by Democrat Marc Veasy, who has now had his home redrawn into a hardcore Red district, TX-25 but TX-33 remains deep Blue.
The new map is now
TX -30 D+54
TX-33 D+41
Crockett can run in either one and very likely easily win. House reps do not have to live in the district they run in, so she can still run in TX-30, or she can run in TX-33 where her home will be. She would easily win, IMHO, the Dem primary in either one, and thus be a lock to win the general. Maxine Waters hasn't lived in her represented district for ages. Same for the now deceased (died in 2019) John Conyers.
The Dallas-Ft Worth Dem who did have their current district shredded from D to R is Julie Johnson in TX-32. It has been redrawn from D+22 to R+17.
TX-30 and TX-33 are still deep deep Blue, in fact both very slightly increased to even deeper Blue.
Crockett could likely win the Dem US Senate primary, but I fear she would get hammered in the general as TX is racist as fuck. Same for a TX governor run for her. It sucks, but it's shitshow Texas, so it's not surprising.

I'm sorry, but I am all in on Talarico for Cornyn's seat. Allred is great, but Talarica is exceptional.
He has been on my radar since I came across his sermon on Christian Nationalism in 2023. I thought he was destined for the national stage then, and everything I've seen from him since convinces me of that all the more.
And man, wouldn't it be a kick to have Crockett and Talarico as the Senators from TX in 2030?

(1,613 posts)If the Republicans are dumb enough to nominate Paxton I think Talarico has a real shot in a general election, I can see him pulling away more traditional Republican leaning voters than other candidates.

(3,903 posts)I agree with those who hope she doesn't run Senate. I am hoping Talarico wins the Democratic nomination. Hope she works for other Dems this cycle and then challenges Cruz. A great matchup for her talents. Not so much with Cornyn.
Governor would also be good, that would raise the profile of that race a lot.
