https://wtfdetective.blog/95-year-gop-mill-collapses-trump-tariff-chaos/For years, Mackeys Ferry Sawmill in North Carolina depended on overseas buyers in China and Vietnam after domestic demand for premium hardwood declined. But when President Donald Trump launched his escalating trade war, the mills owners say the damage was immediate and ultimately irreversible. By Julyjust months after Trump declared his Liberation Day tariffsthey made the decision to shut the operation down entirely.
____<
When I say Liberation Day, I cannot put enough snark and sarcasm in my voice because we werent liberated, Wilson said. The mill has been mothballed, but the 50 workers who depended on it were laid off. His frustration is plain: Liberation Day it did, at the time, it had damn near liberated me from our business. And in essence, it has. Im bitter about that.
On July 1, Wilson and his brother Stephen officially closed Mackeys Ferry. The breaking point, they say, was President Trumps Liberation Day tariffs.
Asked what he would tell the president if Trump stood in his sawmill, Wilson didnt hide his frustration.
Id like to say, What the heck? Actually, Id like to say about nine different explanatives, he said. But President Trump, gee, I understand what youre trying to do, but youre on a fools mission. And youre not helping out a few. Youre hurting a lot.
The White House declined to comment on the closure.
When asked whether they had voted for Trump, both brothers admitted they hadWilson, all three times. He said the decision felt disgusting, and he regrets supporting Trumps trade agenda, which he now sees as directly responsible for shutting down one of his familys businesses.

What a surprise!
Im sorry but I dont have any sympathy for the people in these stories. Trump, in many ways, has always been transparent. He told us what he would do but too many people like these ignored the important things to focus on the hate and bigotry.

Ok. I could forgive them that first time. They were victims of a Con Artist. They made a mistake.
2020
After the record of his fuckups in the first term. After Covid incompetence. They voted for him a second time. Not forgivable.
2024
They voted for him a third time and this time was after his treason during January 6 2021.
They got what they voted for. I'm sure their 50 laid off employees appreciate their choice. Maybe Trump will invite them to the new Ballroom as compensation.

(59,478 posts)I get no personal satisfaction from seeing fifty-plus working class people being tossed out onto the sidewalk with no greater financial reserves than whatever spare change passers-by are willing to toss their way.
However, no one needed a PhD in Economics or Political Science to understand that what Trump was offering before the election is what he delivered after the election. The laid-off workers cant say, we didnt know, because Trump told them what was coming if they voted for him and he won. Both their pre-election slogan and their post-election slogan was, well, Harris would have been worse. They hang on to this despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. If the Biden years were so absolutely awful, OK, they should please elaborate how. Fox may have told them so, but they had jobs, a roof over their head and enough to eat. They now have none of the above, but things are better now? I hope their local Fox Noise affiliate has a soup kitchen and a hostel to offer them, because the help that probably would have been coming from a Harris-Walz administration will not show. For that matter, had there been a Harris-Walz administration, their jobs never would have been in peril in the first place.
So, sure, they can have my pity, but not my sympathy. Why not? Heres why: had I been one of those suddenly tossed out onto the street due to changes ordered by Trump, they would not only have no sympathy for me (good Christians that they are), they would tell me that my misery was Gods will, and that I should just accept his judgment. I offer the same comfort. Try voting for the other party next time. If Fox and Frauds says not to, check to see how many of THEM are living under bridges, and make your own conclusions.

(7 posts)Most of these folks know Trump only from his stint on Celebrity Apprentice. They have no idea of his backstory about what kind of a POS he really is.
Case in point: my wife's best friend and her step-sister she grew up with are both Trump supporters. They're both great people. I adore them. They are caring, loving individuals, and this absolutely has me perplexed. When her bestie and her husband came in town to visit, we had a small chat about The Donald. She told me we needed a businessman as president. Although it was fair comment, I told her 'but not THIS businessman'. We all got a laugh out of it.
After giving her reasons why he's been known as a POS throughout the decades, I told her that's not a very good example of leadership to pass along to our children. She really didn't say anything to say after that. She has 3 of them.
