Bernie Sanders: We need to be thinking seriously about a moratorium on data centers.

Bernie Sanders: "We need to be thinking seriously about a moratorium on data centers. You gotta slow this process down. It's not good enough for the oligarchs to tell us 'you adapt.' Are they gonna guarantee healthcare to all people? What are they gonna do when there are no jobs? Make housing free?"

1. That idea is not likely to sell.

But what might sell is insisting that data centers run only off-peak - consuming grid capacity that is already available. A moratorium, if you will, on expanding grid capacity to support AI, at the expense of residential customers.*

Sanders has an excellent point, as usual. But also as usual, where he is, is unfortunately not where the American electorate is. He likes to move immediately to a conclusion which is very logical to people who are paying attention. But most people are NOT paying attention and instead he and other politicos need to propose solutions to problems that those average people can easily relate to.

* noting also that as AI takes jobs away, residential customers have less $$$ to pay those bills.

No reachable water means no way to sell a home. In cities, builders keep building homes that are barely (or not at a) affordable are draining fossil aquafers faster than we have hopes of recharging the water. But local pols and GOP state legislators are bought by Big Tech to push approving water sucking data centers.

Destopian movies are beginning to look more and more like a glimpse into our future. Money over people is NOT a workable future.

Data centres turn to aircraft engines to avoid grid connection delays

F.T. archived.

https://archive.md/jDusU#selection-1537.0-1537.71

Data centre developers are turning to aircraft engines and fossil fuel generators to power the AI boom, as supply chain shortages and long waits to connect to the grid delay cheaper and cleaner alternatives.

Manufacturers of aeroderivative turbines — which are based on or made from jet engines — and diesel generators have reported increased demand because of data centres seeking to bypass the grid as they wait for larger gas turbines.

AI, powered by dinosaurs.

4. The oligarch owned AI data centers are basically writing off human beings in all manner of way.

The draw on finite resources; increasing survivability's costs to the average person be it food, water or electricity; especially energized via fossil fuels which also accelerates global warming making living conditions increasingly difficult across the planet.

There seems to be no consideration for long term human sustainability on planet Earth, certainly not under current societal structures.

for everyone or better medical care for everyone is just tech opiate for the masses, while they do their best to loot the planet of both natural and cultural resources.

This certainly is NOT going to lower prices on anything!

This mainly affects PC Windows 11 Intel/AMD systems for now.
Mid to Long-term this is going to be really bad for everyone!!
(Unless you are a Billiionaire/Trillionaire TechBro oligarch-blah blah ...)

I would say for yourself , think seriously about Apple and/or
Linux as an alternative in the short to mid term--if you can!
