Some numbers regarding the Bezos destruction of the Washington Post:

First number: Bezos is worth about 350 billion dollars.

The annual loss of the Washington Post the last few years: Around 100 million dollars. Seems like a lot of money.

Percentage of that loss to Bezos' wealth due to the Washington Post compared to Bezos' overall wealth: About 3%. And that was the loss of "The Washington Post," not necessarily how much Bezos personally lost.

But then consider the personal wealth of Jeff Bozos. He was worth about 194 billion in 2024 and about 244 billion in 2026. An increase of around 50 billion dollars, or 25%.

How did that happen. What deals and decisions did he make to lose that much during his recent ownership of the Post and still increase his net worth by that much?

Does it make sense that he is so concerned about the financial welfare of the Post that he needs to gut the staff and the entire purpose of the paper? The paper he owns loses a few hundred million dollars at the same time his wealth increases by 50 billion dollars?

No, it doesn't. He is destroying the Washington Post for profit. As rich as he is, he wants more and is willing to destroy one of the pillars of democracy, a 139 year old publication, just to add a little more to his already obscene wealth.

Regardless or criticisms of the Washington Post, it is still one of the best investigative papers we have. It's being destroyed by another billionaire asshole.

3% of 350 billion is about 10 billion, not 100 million. You mean 0.03%. nt eppur_se_muova 4 hrs ago #1

Indeed. 0.03% is an acceptable rounding error for most purposes. eppur_se_muova 4 hrs ago #4

Bozos is firing people to silence criticism of Trmp and his fellow bilbos, not because of trivial costs.

Millions - untold wealth to most of us here, these bros just don't have a clue what it means to be a connected member of the human race.

They deserve to be reviled, impoverished and jailed. They are the aberrations; they are the weirdos who will not support an equitable society. They are just not evolved.

Not many reptile species express behavior we'd associate with sentient cooperation between members of the same species, not even as much as many fish that evolved before them. So, I think reptiles make good analogy for the greedmongers of the species homo sapiens.
