Well worth a listen, I’m so happy they did this program because it drives home the absurdity of what ICE is doing to turn America into a violent unamerican gangland country. And I think This American Life has pretty wide popularity.

These are recordings from 9-11 calls, framed by the stories of:
- ICE gaining access to buildings through fraudulent means (claiming to be exterminators, or contractors, or utility workers, or police)
-a man who’s as stopped by armed masked men; he called 911 to say “I don’t know who these were’..’ I want to know if it happens again, it’s just people with masks, can i defend myself with a gun?’ And the 9-11 dispatchers don’t really know what to say.
-a health care worker in an ER calling to say that ICE agents were in the ER, walking around and that their presence was interfering with patient care being given by the ER doctors
- a hotel owner stating that ICE was scaring his guests, walking around with guns and masks on, saying it’s private property
-Miramar Martinez calling 911 after she was shot by ICE agent 5 times — she is a US citizen. She survived and they claimed (as always) that she was trying to ram their vehicle (the opposite was true). The guy who shot her was bragging about shooting her, and also was recorded telling her ‘Do something, b***’ — in other words, trying to egg her on to give him an excuse to shoot her. This story was widely reported, but hearing the actual 911 calls is powerful.

Where the rubber meets the road — the 911 dispatchers are ‘struggling to figure out exactly what to do’ for the callers, in such uncharted waters as citizens wanting local protection from police from federal agents.
