https://english.aawsat.com/gulf/5245738-saudi-arabia-strongly-condemns-failed-cowardly-iranian-attacks-targeting-riyadh-andThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its strongest rejection and condemnation of the blatant and cowardly Iranian attacks targeting Riyadh and Eastern regions, all of which were repelled.
The Kingdom emphasized that these attacks cannot be justified under any pretext, especially as they occurred despite Iranian authorities' full awareness that Saudi Arabia had affirmed it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran.
In light of this unjustified aggression, the Kingdom affirmed that it will take all necessary measures to defend its security and protect its territory, citizens, and residents, including the option of responding to the aggression, SPA reported.
Arab nations won't lift a finger to stop the US or Israel.
This is what means the Islamic Republic is done. They live in a neighborhood where everyone hates them... including their own citizens.

They viewed it as a challenge to their role as leaders of the Muslim world.
That's the more modern stuff but the conflict goes back further with the whole Sunni v Shia thing.

are liberal and don't even consider themselves to be Muslim.

Iran and SA have been battling each other for unofficial leadership in the Middle East for a very long time.
More recently, Iran's missteps with its proxies and conflicts with Israel have left them with no friends in the region, save the Houthis.
