although I'm sure it's been explained to him repeatedly that NATO is a defensive alliance that will come to the aid of a member that has been attacked. It is not obligated to assist a member that has instigated a war and finds itself in need of help because it's failed to plan adequately and has gone and fucked it all up.

Trump wants NATO to bow to him and they're not going to do it, so he will "punish" them too by withdrawing the US. And the Republican lap dog party will do nothing about it, as expected.

it sees that they will not do what it wants, and will hurt them in any and every way it can. Do not disqualify his nastiness. He is so predictable. All you have to do is imagine the worst thing, then add infinity, and he will do it. He is a criminal who has got away with some of the worst actions another human being can do another, is still free to do even more inhumane actions on other humans, and is in one of the most powerful bodies of government, to take his less than basic taunts and ignore it is detrimental to life.

It's going to be jaw dropping, no matter what it is. Just expect it.

NATO charter joins members to the defense of North America and Europe, not the Middle East or Israel. Article 5 of the UN charter was only invoked once. After Sep 11. And NATO countries contributed troops and equipment to the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
