Hegseth asks the Army's top uniformed officer to step down, the Pentagon says. In wartime.

Breaking:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hegseth asks the Army's top uniformed officer to step down, the Pentagon says, as US wages war against Iran.

In wartime.

“Hegseth asked Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to step down & take immediate retirement…One of the sources said Hegseth wants someone in the role who will implement President Trump and Hegseth's vision for the Army.”

...weird justification for asking for the general's resignation because, George was reportedly 'spearheading' Hegseth's military overhaul.

George had spearheaded an overhaul of the way the Army modernizes, notching big wins like getting the service’s next main battle tank into soldiers’ hands five years ahead of schedule. He was also a main player in the Army Transformation Initiative, a long list of reforms the Army had been asking for that Hegseth signed off on last April. https://www.defenseone.com/policy/2026/04/hegseth-forces-out-armys-top-general-widely-anticipated-move/412603/

...is this about the Kid Rock flyby - Army investigation/suspension (as Mike pointed to downthread)?

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday abruptly reversed the U.S. Army’s suspension from flight duties hours earlier of two AH 64 Apache helicopter crews that flew around musician Kid Rock’s home in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend.

Hegseth’s move, which also quashed an Army investigation of Saturday’s unusual flyby, came shortly after President Donald Trump was asked about the incident by reporters at the White House.

The Army on Monday said that it was investigating the crews for the flyby, which Kid Rock had posted on his X social media account.

Apache helicopters, which appeared to be the ones that flew outside Kid Rock’s house, also flew over the protests in Nashville that day.

The Army Chief of staff, 4-Star General probably butted heads with Pete concerning the "Kid Rock flyby". If you couple this with the Bondi firing, this at least creates a distraction for the terrible performance and speech last night.

...it was the Army's decision to suspend the pilot which was subsequently reversed by Hegseth.

Has to be a protest and a head butt, as you effectively describe it.

Mueller, She Wrote @MuellerSheWrote
BREAKING: Hegseth has fired the Biden-appointed Army Chief of Staff Randy George for failing to carry out Trump's vision of the Army. Perhaps this is connected to the Army investigation of the Apache Kid Rock flyby, which Hegseth closed via Tweet.

a National Guard Major. A major is just one step up from Captain, which is just one step up from Lieutenant.

Frankly, it does not compute in any way. The military is highly structured and has a very regimented chain of command. Majors never give orders to Generals. They don't even give orders to Colonels. Instead, they serve as aides to those Generals, doing whatever scutwork they are asked to do. If they're good at following a General's orders and minding their own business, they might possible end up being promoted into that category after a decade or two.

Having a National Guard Major order you to resign and retire is an almost unimaginable thing if you are a General. And yet, so things are in the Trump Regime.
