Well the gloves are off and it's about fucking time:

Since Orangina used the word “fucking” in his shitpost on Lie Social, MSNOW has gone over the top using profanity.

And I couldn’t be happier: it is about fucking time that we got MAD AS HELL and stopped pussyfooting around with these motherfuckers who are trying to destroy the whole goddamned country. I have said for ten fucking years that the Republican candidates for President stood there and smiled like stupid bastards while the shithead was destroying their records, their families, and their wives looks, for Chrissake. If only one had opened his or her mouth and let him have it both barrels he would have been decimated.

As Rocky Balboa said to Clubber Lang “Go for it”.

But I know what you mean about how it's being used more and more often these days, not just in casual conversation, but in situations where you wouldn't expect it to pop up.

Appropriate is a subjective term, imo. The way I look at it, words are just words. Humans make them up, humans determine what meanings to ascribe to them, and how much we react to them is also up to us, imo, at least to some extent.

That said, I do agree that the f word seems much more out of place in some contexts (like the president's tweets!) than others, and it can be jarring (even to me) to encounter it unexpectedly in some of those contexts.

At DU, where we're often discussing the latest horrible thing(s) Schlump has done, I often find myself resorting to the f word and its derivatives (f***ing, f***er/y, as f***, etc.) because it's gotten really hard to find other words that are strong enough to express how I'm feeling. I do have a much more extensive vocabulary, but there's nothing else that expresses the full extent of my loathing and contempt for that Orange Hellbeast tne way the f word does. I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but it seems to be something I almost can't help doing these days. I know some of my recent posts have been pretty liberally laced with it, but that is a reflection of how distraught I was when I made thise posts.

Unfortunately, Schlump has reached a stage in his dementia where he is losing his impulse control and his ability to filter his thoughts before they come out of his mouth. He's always been a vile, despicable person, but he used to be able to behave in a way that concealed his worst qualities, especially when speaking publicly. He can still do that sometimes, but those times are getting fewer and farther between and will eventually be nonexistent. I'm afraid we're going to see more and more posts that are laced with cuss words from him, more and more disjointed and nonsensical "speeches," and more and more incidents where he calls someone "Piggy" (or worse), until he loses his verbal communication abilities completely. I just hope he's out of office before he gets to that point, because it's not going to be pretty,

Yes. I know.

I am reminded of a joke I read about Arthur Marx. Can't find it right now.

He was asking an uncle for sugar.

"Pass the sugar, you sun of a bitch"

Father Groucho had to remind him of his manners.
After being duly admonished, Arthur asked politely:

"PLEASE pass the sugar, you son of a bitch"

That said, in proper Bostonian: Screw these bastids to hell.

I do miss Boston, but not the weather, as a lightning storm runs through the Sierra Nevada foothills, bouncing electrical power up and down. Three times lately.

In fact, a study by psychologists from Marist College found links between how fluent a person is in the English language and how fluent they are in swearing.

The former - verbal fluency - can be measured by asking volunteers to think of as many words beginning with a certain letter of the alphabet as they can in 1 minute.

People with greater language skills can generally think of more examples in the allotted time. Based on this approach, the researchers created the swearing fluency task. This task requires volunteers to list as many different swear words as they can think of in 1 minute.

By comparing scores from both the verbal and swearing fluency tasks, it was found that the people who scored highest on the verbal fluency test also tended to do best on the swearing fluency task. The weakest in the verbal fluency test also did poorly on the swearing fluency task.

It’s a word that has great power for emphasis. It can be used as every part of speech. Knowing how and when to use profanity appropriately is an art. Not everyone can do that and even on my ears, it can sound vulgar at times. But to make a blanket statement that the use of profanity implies lack of education is complete and utter nonsense.

It won't. It will exonerate Trump for his use of the F-bomb, and convince many folks on the fence that we are no better.

It may provide some temporary satisfaction in venting our rage, but it will not help one bit in rallying more people to the cause of fighting fascism.

All it will do is lower the national discourse, which is probably what our enemies want.

Not just profanity, but the lies and the jevenile level rhetoric.

The people can't be painted with such a broad brush. Elections are most often won on the margins, motivating souls to the polls and persuading the swing voters. If you think those people don't exist, you are terribly mistaken. I have yet to hear a convincing argument that Democrats in office and pundits on the left dropping F-bombs will help our cause.

Sure, Democratic leaders need to demonstrate more fire in their belly and passion in their speech. They can do that without profanity on their lips, which would turn more people off than on.

Many years ago, I was invited out for lunch to a restaurant now gone, Arthur’s Steakhouse on Walnut Street in Philadelphia. Next to me were three men dressed well, and one of the men was very familiar, but I couldn’t place him. Its not like I was I’m eavesdropping on their conversation but eventually I heard him say “OK I’ll do it, but I can’t have any controversial lines because I’m a well-known pitchman in Philadelphia from the 1940s to today for Acme Markets and cannot cannot afford any controversy.” As soon as he said that, I realized that It was a local personality by the name of Gene Crane, who wound up portraying the mayor of Philadelphia during the Art Museum scene with Clubber Lang verbally assaulting Rocky and Adrienne in Rocky III.

Gene Crane’s son is David Crane who produced some notable tv shows. Gene died I think in his late 90’s.
