How does that make sense?

(12,709 posts)Then Iran will block the blockade blocking the blockade and so on and so on......and somewhere pedo Trump extorts another 80 million barrels of oil...like in Venezuela.
I wonder what the citizens of Venezuela could have done with the money from 80 million barrels of oil? Pedo Trump just put it in his pockets.

(22,374 posts)Trouble is, Iran isn't Venezuela. They're a vastly tougher nut to crack, bristling with long range weapons. The Iranians aren't given him anything, other than a war he can't win. Oil is over $100 per barrel again this morning, as expected. And airports across the globe are running out of jet fuel.
A classic example of biting off way more than he can chew. An unfavorable, backdoor deal to extricate himself is inevitable. As is a nuclear armed Iran, eventually. The hard part will be making Iran keep the embarrassing, backdoor part secret. But such things can be arranged.

(9,549 posts)Is that if ships are interdicted, shippers will stop paying the toll and the pressure on Iran increases.
I think that's nonsense. I think US isolation will grow, and Chinese influence will expand. This is a DISASTER for US foreign policy.

(3,768 posts)Cause there's no ships passing through to where Iran's blockade is. This in turn means IQ47 will rant and call everyone stupid when they say Iran has blockaded the strait. You know, because really it's The Almighty Trump who has blockaded the strait, so stop saying "Iran's Blockade" because it's not!
I'm not kidding, it probably really is this stupid.

(2,920 posts)All I came up with on my own was to try to remember my 3-year-old self and reverse engineer the Tangerine Toddler's so-called "thinking";
"You can't blockade it, *I'll* blockade it first"

(22,374 posts)But the few adults around Trump are probably thinking this will pressure 3rd parties into pressuring Tehran into making a deal. Iran will demand concessions. Probably lifting some sanctions Those 3rd parties will then pressure the US to make those concessions. Trump will probably accept to get the strait open. And the US ends this in worse shape than we started.
The fly in all this is the enriched uranium. Iran has little incentive to give it up. That will take serious concessions from the US, if that's even possible at this point. It was a non-starter on Saturday. Best we can hope for is a return to status quo with a stronger Iran and a weaker US. Plus, our credibility in the Gulf is shot to hell.

(3,768 posts)And possibly, not any ships bound for India either. Everyone involved knows this, including said 3rd party countries.
If what you're suggesting here is indeed the "adults" logic (and you may be totally right on this point), I think most would agree that the problem is most of the "adults" around IQ47 are stupid people to begin with, so they're unlikely to come up with good ideas. Add the fact they're also too terrified to cross Dear Leader or tell him his ideas are moronic and/or illegal, and it's hard to see how their advice is likely to produce meaningful or positive results for US interests.
I don't think the Marmalade Shartcannon is actually going to do try to blockade anyone's ships. Just more mindless bluster from the whining, tedious toddler. Although, if IQ47's real goal is making the USA look like a colossally stupid player on the world stage (which it kinda seems like it must be), I suppose "mission accomplished"

(3,773 posts)Iran's chief weapon in this war is the economic disruption it can cause by blocking the normal flow of traffic through the strait. If the U.S. blocks the traffic instead, it still causes economic damage, but takes away Iran's leverage in negotiations. It also cuts off a source of revenue for Iran.

(3,109 posts)escorting their own stuff in and out to their ports on their side of the gulf. Trump is claiming to be now blockading that traffic, not the whole passageway.
Far as we know, there may not even be any mines. If there are mines, Iran most surely does know where they are or they wouldn't be escorting stuff in and out.
My personal opinion is that he did this mainly in response to the rumor that china was sending air defense systems to Iran, but I'm sure he revels at the thought of also starving the people there at the same time.
