“moral bankruptcy”

and throw in lots of disdain for empathy. Toxic masculinity demands that voting for moral, intelligent, centered-on-people-serving is not manly.

Thus-a culture of “demonstrated moral bankruptcy” fueled by men’s fear of being perceived as weak.

The innate, brute force of cavedom is ever with the 21stC creed of winner take all.

follow politics that closely. They remembered prices being lower in Trump's first term, then getting higher during Biden's tenure, and they thought that if Trump came back, prices would go back to where they were during his first term.

No matter how stupid and simplistic that seems, a lot of Trump '24 voters actually believed that. Is it their fault they're stupid?

but they need to stop screaming and listen for once. I invite them to join us. Join us in not spending on May 1st. Join us in the next No Kings protest - peacefully gather in our communities. You don't even need a sign. Just show up for half an hour and mingle. The show of strength, that we've got the numbers, is more important than clever signs.

We can get this country back to democracy. The Hungarian people just showed us how it's done. Join us and let's get it done.

Maybe not, since they heard stupidity and simplicity from MAGA media daily. But how well did we make clear the reasons why prices were up after covid when Biden was president? Yes, we told them. But to get through the Magaverse media, we needed to shout out loudly, clearly, and constantly.

We are not responsible fur the choices that MAGAs make. But we are responsible for making them aware of choices that we offer. Bernie has said this often.

I am thinking about what I read yesterday about how Magyar won in Hungary. He personally traveled to rural communities that favored Orban and spoke with the people there. He listened to their issues and offered his solutions. He won over enough of them to get a 2/3 majority in the vote.

They should also appear whenever they can and as much as they can on all media platforms including those that are right wing. If we're not on the playing field(s), we lose by default.

My mom always said that if you tell me that you are a republican, then I know all I need to know about you. Trump is just an extreme example of what they all are. I may have to be civil to them, because I want to try to be a better person than they are, but in the center of their being, to one degree or another, they are all mini trumps.

It's always how does some policy affect them. And if some action is good for others, but a problem for them, they go to extremes to find some rationalization why said action is "bad for everyone." , "bad for the country", "God doesn't like it..." etc. You know the drill. Rarely will you find one who is just honest and says outright that they're ONLY looking out for themselves. Deep down they may suspect that is wrong, or don't want other people to disdain them, so they put the God polish on.

They're fuckheads, all of them. All during his first administration, they parroted the talking point that "I may not agree with everything he says, but I like how he's leading the country."

Well, now they don't even have that lie going for them. So instead of admitting that he's a pedo, a rapist, a felon, and a murderer, they pivot and claim that he's not the person they voted for.

Fuck them. Fuck each and every last one of them, individually and as a group.

They could all get raptured up tomorrow, and the world would be objectively better off for their absence.

they can feign disgust and remove their Trump yard signs but they will never vote Democrat...

Often it is not very clear what the specific principles are - Science? Environmental issues? Women’s rights? Democracy? Regulatory oversight? Separation of church and state? Roe v Wade? Civil Rights? Checks on defense contracting and its role in war?

Or dare I say it? Immigration reform (boosting Vinod Khosla, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai or Priscilla Chan as model immigrants makes any visitor confused as to what there is to root for except a nonwhite asshole versus a white asshole. I am sorry if I see Elon Musk, Vinod Khosla, Marc Andreessen, Satya Nadella, Reid Hoffman, Mark Cuban, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai etc as on the same “team” and they will switch just as much and be “our billionaires” with some people in any democracy - our media here in India gushes about Ambani’s vulgar weddings. Same with small creepy guys like Vincent Palathingal- a Jan 6 Trumper who once opportunistically voted for Obama).

I never again want to even consider “purchasing” rights via the marketplace with a musical tacked on. And no more votebank politics. It is not that it is “divisive”. All other people’s worldviews always. Mob populism. Divisive is fine by me. Herding is not.

Not clear what there is here other than a general animosity to the “other team”, which without the context of EarlG and DU would just be some people yelling about some other people. That makes makes the average left lefty just give up.

By now it is pretty clear how context free yelling is working out. I am back on the kind of democratic left that I specifically belong in solo. With alliances of the old kind and no more constant belaboring of the obvious.
I am grouchily heading back to civilization not barbaric hells. My dead-eyed moron mask thankfully died and I stand exposed as a grounchy and cross curmudgeon. Oh well..
Bah.. all humbug. I even tried..something.
It didn’t take..hardest thing I ever did. And beyond pointless. “How would I think if I were a moron!!!” Turns out “I really don’t know!!!”

I will be nice the way I used to be.

Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?

The perpetuators get one chance to actively pursue the offender before they burn with ‘em.

Take direct accountability, or face consequences.

That’s how you shut down a runaway HOA board too… sue the shareholders for failure to act on the board’s misdeeds. If they don’t agreed to sue the board, you sue THEM to close the HOA.

Gen X gives no quarter, as we were given none.

Where we "root" for our "side", and anyone who isn't on our "side" is an enemy.

We are engaged in a battle for the survival of democracy.

I will welcome any former Trump voter who has come to their senses with open arms, even if it didn't happen until it hit them pesonally.

We can disagree about many things, as long as we agree we both want to live in a democracy where we have the right to do so.

34. Influencers I think
Tue Apr 14, 2026, 09:15 AM

It is not grassroots dem activists or normal DU posters (I don’t mean the OP). DUers post diatribes recorded and posted by influencers. It is an insight into what people see out there I suppose. It is an acquired taste and some people like it and some don’t. I don’t.

It used to confuse me tiIl I heard that word (“influencer) last year. This journalist I respect, Yasha Levin, sarcastically refers to himself as an influencer. He is not - a main feature of influencing as far as I can tell is playing on emotions as Trump himself does, but inverse herding sans any policies, beyond the vaguest bumper sticker stuff casually thrown on top.

Yasha isn’t one. He just wouldn’t be hired by say the NYT because he is honest. It amps up herding based on fear and anger. Its just another feature of this alarming overpopulated Idiocracy driven by mob dynamics.

In fairness, none of us (or me anyway..though I bet it’s totally not just me) can quite identify it when it is our Achilles’ heels re irrationality.

No actually it is worse than that. The thing is even when you can, you feel screwed over and mutinous enough to continue being irrational out of spite. Or you combat it with humor which can easily turn nihilistic subtly in this cynical “oh it all sucks way”. Humanism and heart and brain are the only fix.

Last week with the Swalwell for instance, its a dynamic that would play on this ineradicable male fear of “false allegations!!!”

I cannot tell which is more absurd- abortion as birth control or false allegations as this female hobby and an “easy money” route. Actually the latter. At the end of the day from what I have heard from women who have had them abortions aren’t that painful, though obviously no woman’s preferred method of contraception. But allegations of sexual harassment are painful enough processed by a decent HR. This internet shit is so much worse.

Women would not ever choose the internet’s MeToo dynamics if decent systems existed that did not penalize women in callous ways.

With many ordinary conservatives over the years it is less that they are hateful than that I just don’t agree with the kind of stuff they often consider a good idea.

I have always felt that conservatives are too agreeable rather. They don’t like being confrontational-going against the group.

I used to try to not be an overtly confrontational lefty out of a sense of self-preserving alarm at getting into conflicts with what must clearly be a lunatic Idiocracy going by the state of things..
Lol

I didn’t think I would be able to pull off taking on this cracked society

But it just becomes too hard.
