Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs to the idea that the Swalwell accusers "conveniently timed" their accusations to interfere with the election.
We are far better off they came forward now, BEFORE the primary voters pick the top two candidates for the general election. CA democrats have more than a month and a half to choose a better candidate -- and they will.
And the R's can't dump on non-candidate Swalwell without reminding everyone of the abuser they put in the highest office in the land.

(2,095 posts)The Democrats need to rally around a candidate and fast. I actually like Xavier Becerra, but he didn't qualify for the debate, so it's going to be hard for him to gain traction. I don't think Katie Porter has a chance, she is not likeable. Steyer is not a good choice either.
I hadn't even heard of Xavier Becerra until all the recent press about Swalwell started coming out. I went to his "about me" page and, dang, I wish he'd been promoted as a candidate earlier. He helped to draft some of the ACA, fought to expand ACA, and he came out in support of Joe Biden when so many other Democrats were turning on him (something I admire as it shows he wasn't afraid of taking the less popular route).
Here is his bio: https://www.xavierbecerra2026.com/bio/
I will end up voting for whoever I think is going to be one of the top two candidates, if it looks like Becerra doesn't stand a chance in the primary, then I'll vote for who does. I just don't want the choices to be two Republicans. Ugh.
NOTE: I wonder if Swalwell dropping out will allow them to add another candidate to the debate?
Becerra for Governor!

(2,095 posts)I don't know the rules for qualifying for a debate if a candidate drops out. Hopefully, that opens up a spot for Becerra. Man, how had I not heard of him until now??? He is so qualified. He sued the Trump administration 120 times and won. His priorities are Healthcare as #1 (he supports single payer).
We gotta get a groundswell of PR going to get him more visibility.

We have a known FELON!
Not a peep!
But Chavez and Swalwell, even Franken are damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

(1,938 posts)We impeached him twice. Told people he was a threat to democracy. Pointed out a man who gets triggered by a tweet isn't a good choice to be president. Asked him in front of the country "will you shut up man?"
There's been plenty of peeps.
For those 3 you named, there's corroborating evidence and multiple accusers for all 3. Given what we know about sexual abuse false claims, it's a really low probability that they weren't guilty. You know who got accused of various sex pest things and it fell apart because there wasn't a there there? Joe Biden. Keith Ellison had two different domestic violence claims that fell apart, the first because there was no evidence they were in a relationship, and the second because the accuser had video evidence they wouldn't show anyone (is they didn't have anything). The media isn't just running with entirely unverified claims. They talk to the victims, to people the victims told at the time.

(4,522 posts)but I have seen enough accusations. Im rather devastated, but I am also grateful he has resigned. I told my husband tonight the world would survive just fine without men. Women do most of the work anyway. God, what a week.

(10,419 posts)Porter was my rep and I feel she blew it when she opted to run for Feinstein's senate seat.
Scott Galloway and Jane Fonda seem to be on team Tom Steyer. I'm beginning to appreciate his campaign ads which address every twist and turn with updated ads. He's appearing effective.
