Senator Chris Murphy: In Crisis of the Common Good, I lay out six cults that have infected our culture -

the cults of profit, globalization, technology, consumerism, credentialism, and corruption. Sets of false beliefs that benefit a handful of elites.

No better time to talk about all of this.

The rest are pretty obvious, but what is the cult of credentialism?

Is that using one’s education and training to speak from expertise?

Is it using those credentials to talk down to the less educated?

I want real doctors and scientists advising me on medical issues, the environment, etc.

Observations of credentialism must take into account the actual relationship between education and job performance, examining whether the credentials in question are genuinely necessary for effective job execution. Overall, credentialism remains a contentious issue, reflecting broader societal debates about education, opportunity, and economic structures.

Too many Democratic politicians talk like they're participating in a graduate level course in sociology.

Bring it to the ordinary people in words they use everyday. Stop perpetuating the idea that Democrats talk over people and think we're superior.

back in 2024. One of the reasons given for that performance is an extraordinary stretch, yet some believe it is plausible.

We have a vulnerable audience out there, no doubt about it.
