The powers that be have decreed that the 2028 nominee will be a straight white male not named Shapiro or Newsom.

Sad but true.

characterization of something 'coming down from on high' - would, at least in this case, probably be misplaced.

No wait, that’s my Mah Jong club.

The PTB include the DNC, who structure and schedule the primaries, the consultants who they fork out big dollars to and the big donors, who will tell the DNC the kinds of candidates they will support.

Certainly, if a woman or POC suddenly captured the public’s attention and enthusiasm, things could change, but as it stands now, I don’t see that happening.

I don’t like it, but it is what it is.

(This isn’t news, and it isn’t just my opinion- lots of “conventional wisdom” pundits and party insiders have been saying this since the last election)

Now, if Ken Martin gets the boot sometime between now and next January, that could signal a shift as well.

We shall see.

Can't remember what it was, but it got a lot of groans here on DU. It seemed she was wasn't standing up to Trump. It didn't bother me much, but it bothered some people.

When she was there to discuss, and thank Trump for FEMA assistance with floods, IIRC.

but not sad. I wanna win and end this shit show. I live in Michigan, and her political career ended when she sucked up to Trump. All the air went out of her balloon. Fun while it lasted Big Gretch.

Whitmer went, looking pretty hat in hand I think, to Trump for help with Michigan's National Guard base. She turned people off with that, I fear.

But I agree, a woman is unlikely to get the nomination, the Party is gun-shy at best vis a vis women as the nominee.

But it wasn’t a good look.

Crocket was probably right when she said the party is likely to get behind the “safest white boy” for 2028 and honestly at this point I’m fine with that.

I like her as our governor, but don’t think she has the chops to make a good president. Especially given all the repair and salvage work our federal government will need once the slobfather and his slimy sycophants are driven out.

And she likely would have won the nomination fairly easily.

I’m worried that the nasty primary gives the republicans a real chance at picking the seat up.
