I think he's the right one to lead California. I have all my fingers crossed for him to prevail in November.

I also fear that this will mean Steyer will run for President in 2028 again and throw his billions into the race, trying to buy himself an office he doesn't deserve yet again. *barf*

who presumably should all go to the final candidate in the general, it's not going to look good for a republican.

5. I don't live in California

but I think I would rather pick between 2 Democrats instead of Democrat or a Republican because there is realistically only 1 choice from my point of view.

That said I was never on the Steyer bandwagon despite a lot of the Youtube hosts I watch were pushing him. He is a big donor turned politician. I was actually surprised he was polling well in the lead-up to the South Carolina primary until Biden crushed him out of the race but he did run a lot of ads. I was surprised again when he polled well in California as those 2 states are very different politics wise. Also what happened to Need to Impeach? (his ad campaign from Trump's first term)

9. Steyer vs Becerra would have been my preference.

There would have been more discussion around single payer, which only Tom supports.
There would have been challenges around subsidizing fossil fuels and utility rates.
The discussion might have been around which candidate can be more progressive but now there's no need.

Becerra can just be the more sane one and remain a centrist.

And we would have definitely ended up with a Democrat. Now the oligarchs will rush to fund Hilton withobscene amounts of money. He’ll use it to promote baseless smears against Becarra, some of which will stick. This is going to get ugly.

It is what it is. If you're good, you'll remain good. If you're struggling with costs of living, nothing will unfold to meaningfully ameliorate that. The powers in Sacramento got what they wanted out of this. It's not even going to be a conversation.

California needs better candidates, but the state party has no incentive to change. How this primary unfolded was a total shitshow from start to finish.

My silver lining is that Saikat Chakrabarti looks like he's being forcefully sent packing. That is satisfying. And so long Porter. She showed voters who she was - and they believed her.

I will say, the polls were, at least so far, really bad in all this. Hard to say. We've only counted about half the votes, but the same day voting and early mail votes have been different than the polling implied. We'll have to see final numbers before knowing where everything broke in the past week.

On the plus side, I may now proceed to not care about any of this. All the Democrats on my ballot will easily win in November.

21. Steyer is still in the running

This morning's newspapers say that 1/2 of California votes still needed to be counted and they expect most of those votes to be from democrats. Steyer is very slowly closing the gap between him and Becerra so we'll have to wait and see what happens. May not know til Thursday or Friday.
