NJ-02: Zack Mullock will face Rep. Jeff Van Drew in the fall after winning Dem primary
Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock defeated three Democratic rivals on Tuesday to claim the Democratic nod in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, the Associated Press projects.
Mullock will now face Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R) in November as Van Drew seeks a fifth term in the House of Representatives.
The Democrat faces an uphill climb in the 2nd District. The only time Democrats won there since 1995 was with Van Drew as their nominee.
Van Drew, a longtime former Democratic state senator, was elected to the House as a Democrat in 2018 but announced he would switch his party affiliation to Republican less than a year after being sworn in and has since become a strong ally to President Donald Trump.
