WI-GOV: Minocqua Brewing's Bangstad (D) not on the ballot for governor -- yet
A liberal provocateur who on Monday turned in signatures to run for governor has hit a major roadblock after it was revealed that dozens of pages of signatures he submitted were invalid.
Kirk Bangstad, the Minocqua Brewing Company owner and controversial activist, announced hed join the Democratic primary just weeks ago, criticizing his fellow Democrats as feckless in the face of President Donald Trump. On Monday, he told his social media followers that hed submitted more than the required 2,000 signatures.
As of the 5 p.m. Monday deadline, the Wisconsin Elections Commission said eight Democratic candidates including Bangstad had filed the necessary paperwork. Pending a review, that sets them up to take on one another during the August primary, and vie for a shot at the executive office in November.
But a review by the Elections Commission found that about 40 pages of signatures were invalid, because they included Aug. 11 the date of the primary rather than Nov. 3, the election for which the candidates must qualify. Some signers also did not include necessary information, such as where they live.
