Target is voluntarily recalling certain Up & Up branded wipes over a potential contamination.
Up & Up Fragrance-Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes were pulled off shelves following customer complaints and FDA testing that identified traces of bacteria in the products, according to a June 5 notice from the Food & Drug Administration.
Target and Turkish manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri received reports from customers alleging that symptoms like skin irritation, eye irritation and infections had occurred following the use of the recalled baby wipes. Customers also flagged product discoloration.
"Use of products contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioi may result in serious and life-threatening infections," the notice reads. "The products are predominantly used on newborns, infants, and young children, who are particularly vulnerable to opportunistic infection due to their immature immune systems."
