My message to Kristin Welker and the rest of the corporate media

Take a page from the old song by the Staples Singers (one of mr. senseandsensibility's favorite songs) and RESPECT YOURSELF.

Do not put up with demeaning name calling, lies, and personal insults. Do not beg trump to complete the interview if he is insulting you and not answering questions or providing your viewers with useful information. Respect yourself and the solemn obligation you have been given by our nation's founders and the constitution. Your job is too important to succumb to a fear of losing access or a desire to complete the conveted interview at all costs.

You have legal and constitutional power, as well as a moral obligation to demand answers. But unless you also demand respect, you will get lies and insults. Neither of these is of any use to your viewers. By allowing them, you are failing.

That's why it is actually Welker and the legacy media who are doing HIM a favor by interviewing him. If they insist on doing so, it must be rigorous in the extreme. Allowing insults and begging him to complete the interview is playing into his hands.

But now he just looks bad, he is easily debunked in real time and people arent buying his bullshit anymore.

Courts are starting to rebuke him. Even Welker went at him multiple times for his lack of evidence(which he never talked about or produced). He just said there is so much evidence amd then talked about California. They guy is cooked.

fact checking and a demand for professionalism (no personal insults). What we seem to have is the worst of both worlds: a platform for his lies and a chance for him to demean the journalists with insufficient pushback.

regarding election evidence. All he could say was California. He looked like an absolute ass, actually. Like the old, washed up conman that he is.

She should have pushed back when he called her "darling" at the end. Fucking dirty old misogynist rapist.

But unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. His lying has gotten so pervasive that at this point journalists should say "That's a lie." The fact that they still can't be this clear is a problem. We've had ten years of this BS.

That is, when he lies, which is continuously, they should say "That's not true, Donald". Talk to him like he's a toddler with a firm voice. Maybe he will pout and call names. If he does, "That is not very nice, Donald."

Remember, he fears strong women. And he immediately started backtracking, blaming it on the weather, as if the rain makes him lie more?

And he agreed to another interview with her. He needs the microphone.

stop entertaining Trump’s psychotic impulses ..stop hoping he verbally assaults you so you can appear the victim/the martyr…stop swallowing his poison because you and the network assume that is the price you pay for access and no Trump retribution…..

and how about you start the process of regaining your integrity/your self respect and sue Trump’s fat ass for slander…

interviewers need to start fact checking him during the interview, or if he abruptly walks off after a temper tantrum, then the interviewer needs to read off to the camera all the facts contradicting his lies. They shouldn't waste the air time by letting him have the last word.

I think the reason she or other reporters for that matter don't do that is they fear losing access. And that's a problem.

She would have had good reasons too, he didn't answer her questions and he acted completely disrespectfully. NBC would have backed her up if she had done that. I'm sure of it. They can see that CBS is circling the drain and they don't want to be next.

...if she called it off, she possibly could have been fired. Not only was it her job to do the interview, but as she said, they had flown a whole crew to Wisconsin to do it. I don't think she can make that call. I suspect NBC was happy that she tried to get him to stay. That was her job.

in the few minutes that sicko vehemently lashed out? He was overbearing, loud, bullying …. I am not a fan of Welker, but I don’t see that she did anything wrong and I don’t think she hardly had a chance to do anything differently.

Mr. President, the American people salute the rank, not the man and have appointed me the honor of acting as their voice tonight. My questions are from your constituents, those same American people and I expect you will afford them the respect of a thoughtful reply to their questions.

And then the second he stepped out of line or ramped up his usual bloviating bullshit, I would cut the mic, kill the camera and walk off the set. Sure, it might seem a little "Animal House"-esque (walking out on the Dean and the rigged hearing), but there is no way the press in this country will EVER recover if they do not stop bowing down to this demented mad man/charlatan/clown/festering boil on the ass of humanity...

Imagine if the reporters just asked his handlers the questions, and when Shitler tries to answer for that person the reporter should just calmly say, "I wasn't talking to you sir." If they did that over and over he would implode. I don't think the reporters have the solidarity to do that though.

...and rightfully so.

I originally misjudged her by watching the clips of the blow up and one mistake she made about troops going to Iran. The fact is, this interview was a great interview for her and for the viewers.

She spoke with Trump afterwards and even got a promise from Trump for a second interview. It was a home run for her.

I respectfully disagree with the OP that Welker should have played the respect card or put on airs about representing the Constitution and so forth. Like so many things, if you act dramatic and self-righteous, you weaken the things you want to strengthen. In this case the Constitution and Welker would both have been weakened had she chosen to act out a "how dare you" melodrama.
