Fewer Americans say democracy is central to country's identity, AP-NORC poll finds

Associated Press link below.

…agreement about other aspects of the country’s underlying character appears to be eroding, the survey found. Americans are less likely to see a democratically elected government as “extremely” or “very” important to the United States’ identity as a nation than they were just a few years ago. About two-thirds of U.S. adults now say a democratically elected government is highly important to the U.S.’s identity as a nation, down from 80% in 2021.

They feel like they will be in the “in-crowd” and benefit from it, often at the expense of others.

Their world view is that there are limited slices of pie, and, certain groups are trying to take theirs. Only through social domination and by oppressing those groups can they retain what is theirs.

With growing resource scarcity, the calls for Fascism will get louder. We need to resist those impulses and win against those who succumbed to them.

And it’s not a recent phenomenon. For decades and decades now, the rightwing propaganda apparatus has hammered away at one main theme: “They are taking your country away from you!”

That’s their literal words.

And it’s at the corrupt heart of all their messaging: This country belongs to a select few. Everyone else is a danger, a poison, an existential threat. THEY deserve no rights, nothing but destruction by any means. Because THEY are not Real Americans.

How can anything but fascism emerge from such a twisted philosophy?

More than just a hack internet debate comeback these days, it seems.

Democracy is rarer than most of us seem to realize.

We are lucky we get the privilege argue about it.

until... that leader is a Democrat. This isn't an ideology, this is embracing their cult leader and owning the Libs. These people are too stupid to vote.

Those millions of republicans want an authoritarian/theocratic gov't but they mistakenly think they will be the few hundred elites actually in charge.

Those millions are useful tools for those who will actually be in charge.

One poster called it a 'new social feudalism age'.
