(197 posts)He should have stated he is a worthless fucking asshole.
Seems straight forward even with the sarcasm. And that is he didnt go far enough.
Like Hillary with the Deplorable comment, they are all Deplorable, if qualifying with a percentage, maybe 99.9%.

(12,637 posts)I can see this easily escalating between Fetterman and Platner. Platner had said previously that Fetterman was the bane of his existence bc he was so frequently asked about their similarities, the rough and tough working class champions. Interestingly, Platner mentioned one difference was that if he were to win Maine's senate seat, he would never be dressed in anything less than a suit and tie.
Out of respect for the institution.
Wonder if that set Fetterman off? Or is Fetterman deliberately trying to bait Platner for his 'friends' on the other side of the aisle? Reportedly, Big John has become very chummy with Dave McCormick.
Hummmm.
Platner needs to be careful. There's definitely a target on his back.

(26,803 posts)He probably polls at near zero in Platner's, so a pretty safe strategy.

He's scarcely better than a Republican at this point.

(6,744 posts)... women who get drunk deserve to get raped?
Takes one to know one I suppose.
Before this post get altered on for not "supporting Democrats," I want to tell you a little bit about myself
I am a lifelong Democrat. I started volunteering on campaigns at 13, collecting signatures to get Bill Bradley on the ballot in New York when he ran for president. (Go Knicks.) I have worked on campaigns as both a volunteer and a paid staff member in six states at all levels of the ballot, from city council races to presidential elections. I've slept in strangers' basements. I've gotten on a plane to a different state to start work with 24 hours' notice. I am also Jewish. I am absolutely disgusted that the party I've been a member of my entire life is embracing a guy who literally had an SS tattoo.

(5,348 posts)you: "women who get drunk deserve to get raped?"
ME and Graham Platner: NO, but if you get so drunk in public that you are incapacitated,
it does increase the chances that such an attack could happen, when you can't defend yourself against it--
and that part of it is on YOU, if you rendered yourself incapable of self-defense in public--
but in no way excuses the male who raped you!
"Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner made disturbing comments about sexual assault victims in Reddit posts that were deleted shortly before he launched his campaign saying assault victims should just take some responsibility for themselves to avoid attacks and act like an adult for fcks sake. He said people should avoid alcohol so they dont end up in a compromising situation and downplayed the challenges servicemembers face in reporting sexual assault. " https://emilyslist.org/sound-the-alarm/sound-the-alarm-graham-platner-says-sexual-assault-victims-should-take-some-responsibility-in-now-deleted-reddit-posts/
Seems like pretty common-sense advice to EVERY woman ANYWHERE--- DON'T get so drunk in public that you make yourself vulnerable to sexual assault!--- That IN NO WAY is a DEFENSE of RAPISTS who would take advantage of the situation, nor did he offer anything that could reasonably be judged as such!--- it was advice to women to be the first to take care of themselves, because male predators are OUT THERE--- and as someone who has admitted problems with alcohol, he knew what he was talking about!
I have seen what he was talking about, personally--- I was a taxi driver in East Lansing, Michigan, serving a lot of M.S.U. students before and after bar closings on Friday and Saturday nights... One night I was at a corner waiting for a traffic-light change, and some people shoved a very drunk girl into my back-seat, without my permission, and she could barely give me a destination... By the time I drove there, only a very few blocks away, she was completely passed out and I could not wake her up to exit my taxi at her residence... She was very young, attractive and barely dressed in some tiny halter top--- and the Devil told me "you could do anything with her that you want, and then toss her out onto her front lawn"...
Well, luckily for her I was not that guy, and I was very concerned about alcohol poisoning being a threat to her very life, so I drove her back to a point where I knew there would be police, and then got blocked in by police cars and an ambulance---costing me about an hour which I had to pay for, on one of the busiest nights of the week, and I didn't get paid for that ride, either--- before I was finally able to leave, they had succeeded in beginning to revive her, and she was responding to them verbally--- to which I felt relieved.
I hope she learned some kind of lesson from that night, and I am still glad that my taxi was the one she was shoved into,
even though it cost me money...... because I presume she came to no physical harm that night,
other than what was self-inflicted, but I can't presume what might have happened if she had been
shoved into the back-seat of any other taxi driver's car....
What I got from Platner's comments about female public drunkeness,
was that women need to be the 'first line of defense' for their own sake---
but not that they were 'to blame' if they failed in that,
or that any rapist was in any way 'excused' for taking advantage of the situation....
He probably worded his opinions poorly, possibly because he was drunk himself
at the time he posted them, but I think his advice was totally sound...
