Or, it may be out of concern that extracting the letters is likely to reveal or cause further damage to the marble; the scaffolding might provide a steadier platform for dealing with that eventuality.
But I still think they're following orders from the cranky toddler, foot-dragging abides.

(80,347 posts)he cuts corners all in the name of expediency. look at the reflecting pool. look at the rose garden. look at the east wing all torn down in the most tacky and speedy manner.
some things need to be done correctly. correct is at times time consuming.

There'll be a tarp up to conceal the name removal. Don't want us to get any joy out of it.
