SNOPES: Did Trump's motorcade drive through newly painted reflecting pool?

YES, so he could "inspect" it.

Several Snopes readers also emailed us and searched our website to verify the veracity of the story.

In short, the claim is true and the images are authentic. In early May 2026, after the pool was repainted dark blue and before the NPS began to refill it with water, a White House official posted a video showing Trump's motorcade driving though the landmark. . . .

For further reading, Snopes debunked a rumor that the Trump Organization was selling pieces of peeling paint from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The motorcade vehicles weigh several tons apiece, and their hot tires can easily damage pool paint.

Throw in the added weight of the bloated blowhard in chief, and that thing probably did some damage to the stability of the floor of the pool.

U.S. President Donald Trump's motorcade drives on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as it undergoes renovations, in Washington, D.C. This drive through is the vandalism to the pond as the weight of all these cars had to affect the foundation.

I have a bus line about 200' from my house. In the morning, I can hear the street slabs going up when the bus crosses the expansion joint, and when it drives off. Thump thump thump thump...

Displacement of the slabs on either side of a joint could crack the coating.

35. Here's how and why driving on a concrete pool will damage it

1. Sealant Failure: Pool paints and sealants are not designed to support the concentrated weight, rolling friction, and turning forces of a vehicle's tires. This can cause the sealant to crack, chip, or tear.

2. Surface Piercing: Hard rubber tires and the heavy weight of a car can easily gouge or puncture waterproof membranes, compromising the watertight barrier.

3. Structural Cracking: Even if the shell does not cave in immediately, driving over an empty pool subjects the concrete and steel to uneven stress loads, leading to micro-cracks in the shell.

4. Hydrostatic Damage: If the pool is empty when driven over, it is more susceptible to structural failure from groundwater pressure.

So, yeah, 15 big SUVs driving over a recently painted pool will damage it. Pedo Trump is the vandal.

the reinforcement of the pool would be damaged by the direct weight of each tire, because it would impact it directly

It was not built as a roadway and should not have been used as one with those heavy vehicles

You can see the picture of the area that appears to have been painted - it's really shiny. But you can also see a grid pattern, Maybe 'tiles' or similar, that make up the pool's surface.

Don't you think its a coincidence that the sheets of liner that are peeling off are strangely geometric in shape? Almost like the lining had split along those pattern marks in the pool.

I believe that the still photographs included in the OP do not constitute the entirety of the drive.

I think that driving multiple heavy vehicles the length of the Reflecting Lake...err...Pond...err...whatever could cause damage almost anywhere along the course of travel.

IOW: widespread.

"shiny surface - grid pattern"

Your theory is a different one. And more expansive.

There are a range of explanations (and/or theories) out there. Starting with the difficulty (and some complexity?) involved in applying such a coating/treatment - particularly over such an extensive expanse. (and in several 'timed' coats?) Second up, is the questionable substrate (granite) which has also raised questions, and question marks. The professionals that have been consulted seem not eager to point a finger - at least at this time. But, of course - nothing standing in the way of you and I .. ! Yeah ?

Maybe the surround is granite, but the "reflecting lake" is concrete.

Trump is inside the presidential "Beast," which weighs anywhere from 7.5 - 10 tons alone, not to mention the other vehicles in the motorcade.

What. A. Freaking. Moron!
