The ballots are in the mail for the Anchorage's municipal election April 7
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - On Tuesday, ballots to more than 200,000 registered Anchorage voters went in the mail. Municipal Clerk Jamie Heinz said people who are expecting a ballot but haven’t received one by Tuesday March 24 should call the Anchorage Election Center at 907-243-8683 to request a new one.
The municipal election offers several ways to vote including 18 ballot drop boxes around town that are set up and ready to go. People can also send their voted ballots back in the mail with a single forever stamp, but if it’s close to election day, Heinz recommends they take their ballot envelope to the post office and bring it inside.
”We request they have the postal worker manually postmark the ballot for them so that we can ensure we get that postmark on the day that it was dropped off,” Heinz said.
Starting March 31, places like the Loussac Library and City Hall will offer in-person voting. Heinz said federal changes currently being debated in congress which would require proof of citizenship to vote don’t apply to Anchorage municipal elections. Voters can use their regular IDs to vote in-person.
