U.S. Orders Intelligence Agencies to Step Up Spying on Greenland
Source: WSJ
The U.S. is stepping up its intelligence-gathering efforts regarding Greenland, drawing Americas spying apparatus into President Trumps campaign to take over the island, according to two people familiar with the effort.
Several high-ranking officials under Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued a collection emphasis message to intelligence-agency heads last week. They were directed to learn more about Greenlands independence movement and attitudes on American resource extraction on the island.
The classified message asked agencies, whose tools include surveillance satellites, communications intercepts and spies on the ground, to identify people in Greenland and Denmark who support U.S. objectives for the island.

A collection-emphasis message helps set intelligence-agency priorities, directing resources and attention to high-interest targets. The Greenland order, which went to agencies including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, underscores the administrations apparent commitment to seek control of the self-governing island. It forms part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization member and a decadeslong ally.

(13,568 posts)I was considering a return trip but I fear that tRump has poisoned the Greenland peoples attitude toward Americans. When I was there the government was stepping up efforts to attract American tourists, I suspect they don't want to have much to do with us anymore.
Whatever tRump touches tRump kills.

(52,901 posts)1. Under provisions of (double-secret book that says you can't do this shit), absent exigent circumstances no collection against allies of the United States shall be conducted.
2. Examples of exigent circumstances sufficient to authorize collection tasking against an ally of the United States are counterdrug/counterespionage operations in which inadvertent collection of allied communications may occur. All such intercept of allied communications shall be handled under Agency minimization directives.
3. Having a president with a one-inch penis who wants to invade an allied nation to show how manly he is, or whatever in the holy fuck is this stupid bastard's justification for committing an international crime, is NOT an exigent circumstance.
4. This agency cannot and will not collect intelligence on any allied nation, and the rest of the US intelligence community similarly refuses to do this.
