Trump announces $1,000 government-funded accounts for American babies

Source: The Guardian

Donald Trump unveiled a federal program Monday providing $1,000 government-funded investment accounts for American babies, getting big time backing from top business leaders who plan to contribute billions more to an initiative tied to “the big beautiful bill”.

At a White House roundtable with over a dozen CEOs, including from Uber, Goldman Sachs and Dell Technologies, Trump relayed the details of “Trump accounts” – tax-deferred investment accounts tracking stock market performance for children born between 2025 and 2029.

“For every US citizen born after December 31, 2024, before January 1, 2029, the federal government will make a one-time contribution of $1,000 into a tax-deferred account that will track the overall stock market,” Trump said.

The accounts will be controlled by guardians and allow additional private contributions up to $5,000 annually. Trump called it “a pro-family initiative that will help millions of Americans harness the strength of our economy to lift up the next generation”.

This is a good investment opportunity, I’m sure. I won’t be around to see what happens when these accounts mature, but I’m pretty sure this will end like all his other hare brained ideas.

$1,000. doesn't come close to covering the out of pocket expenses for those women who have insurance, even if it's a non-eventful, normal pregnancy.
Without health care, a situation that many more women will soon find themselves in if that "big ugly bill" gets passed, it's closer to $20,000.

From birth to age 18 it's a whole lot more expensive.

https://www.lendingtree.com/debt-consolidation/raising-a-child-study/

So, the $1,000. is insignificant. It's a sucker deal.

This is the next step in the attempted re-White-ification of the country.

The cabal of Republicans, racist-libertarians, Techbros, corporatists and religionists want more White babies, period.

One wonders if the next step will be to pre-select what children can learn what to create the drones needed to support the cabal. Not that it isn’t already happening but rather it would be out in the open.

What's the difference between this and just putting this savings bonds? or a College Savings Account? Savings bonds and Savings Accounts are guaranteed, I wouldn't trust Trump! That's how we paid for our son's university degree, with Savings Bonds. He came out ahead-- with money left over. You can put up to $5000 in the Trump account yearly, but YOU put the money in, not Trump, is that right? Another way for him to grift? No thanks, DonOld!

$1,000.00 dollars "is the square root of sweet bugger nothing " when it comes to the full costs of bearing and raising a child.
And, that goes double, with brass knobs on it, if the pregnancy in any way experiences problems.

is the felon getting his cues from Hungary's Orban?

Read this article: from 2019

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47192612

Snip of article:

Hungarian women with four children or more will be exempted for life from paying income tax, the prime minister has said, unveiling plans designed to boost the number of babies being born.

It was a way of defending Hungary's future without depending on immigration, Viktor Orban said.

The right-wing nationalist particularly opposes immigration by Muslims.

Hungary's population is falling by 32,000 a year. Women there have fewer children than the EU average.

As part of the measures, young couples will be offered interest-free loans of 10m forint (£27,400; $36,000), to be cancelled once they have three children.

$1000 is nothing compared with what it takes to birth a child... let alone raise it. But I'll bet groups like Quiverfull are salivating over the thought. People should start suing the government for death dismemberment and pain and suffering to the mother of an unwanted child, or when the pregnancy goes wrong as well as lifetime payments for disabled children born since RvW was nullified. Make the life of the living breathing mother worth more than a clump of non sentient cells.

Is it going to be in the child's name/SSN? If in parents since it is tax deferred if they take the money out in addition to taxes on it will they also be subject to the 10% early withdrawal penalty also.

If in child's SSN will they also be subject to the kiddie tax if they withdraw it.
