City of Spokane plans review after anti-ICE protest response

Source: KREM News

SPOKANE, Wash — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown addressed the city's response to anti-ICE protests, defending the actions taken by law enforcement and reiterating the city's commitment to peaceful protest and public safety. The protest led to the deployment of tactical police teams, the arrest of 30 people, and a temporary curfew in downtown Spokane.

Mayor Brown also noted that many of the protesters understood the likelihood of arrest when engaging in civil disobedience. The city is planning a full after-action review to evaluate its response and identify any necessary changes moving forward.

Spokane mayor Lisa Brown is a long-time Democrat, so it will be interesting how this plays out. Spokane is a blue dot in otherwise ruby-red eastern Washington State.

Spokane sent Cathy McMorris Rodgers to the House for several terms, dumped their very fine representative Tom Foley (who served as Speaker) for a political newbie named George Nethercutt whose only advantage was his butt kept his seat free of dust, and sent the criminally insane fundamentalist insurrectionist Matt Shea to the Washington Legislature.

The Spokane City Council leans progressive and the mayor is a Democrat (former state legislator). The unhinged Matt Shea was elected by the City of Spokane Valley, a much more conservative town just east of the City of Spokane. The 5th Congressional district of Washington is a sea of red that eventually washed Tom Foley out of office and keeps sending toe-the-line Republicans, despite the City of Spokane breaking for Democratic candidates.
