'They don't deserve that': Trump voter heartbroken as ICE grabs his workers

Source: Raw Story

June 12, 2025 12:15PM ET

A Florida business owner backed President Donald Trump's immigration policies — until government agents rounded up his own employees. Vincent Scardina voted for the president in November, but his decision backed fired when U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement agents detained a third of the workers at his roofing business, reported WTVJ-TV.

"It's going to be really hard to replace those guys," said business owner Vincent Scardina. "We're not able in Key West to just replace people as easily as, say, a big city, very limited people to pull from, and then you would have to train them, and that takes sometimes years.” ICE snatched up six workers, all from Nicaragua, and Scardina is worried about them – and his business. He said it takes not only a financial toll, but an emotional one. "Well, you know, you get to know these guys, you become their friends, just not an employer, but a friend, and you see what happens to their family," Scardina said. "It's quite a shock."

Monroe County sheriff's deputies helped transport the men to a local detention facility for deportation, but their attorney said they all had valid work permits and pending asylum applications. “They are legally here,” said attorney Regilucia Smith. “Valid work permit, not even close to expired … again, no criminal records — not here, not in Nicaragua.” Scardina was asked what he would say to the president he helped elect. "What happened here?" Scardina said he would ask Trump if given a chance. "This situation is just totally, just blatantly not at all what they said it was."

Scardina still agrees with most of the president's policies, but he believed the Trump administration would focus only on deporting criminals, but he said immigration officials appear to be trying to meet a target number. "It's not just happening to me," he said. "I mean, it's happening across the board to several contractors. I know they're all being hit by this hard. I know of one landscaper that lost nine or 10 of his whole crew he had and he's just totally out of business all of a sudden, just like that.”

The Democratic Party warned people. And here we are. It was never about crime. It's about skin color and culture.

Too bad that the consequences of his vote didn't fall on him instead of his innocent employees.

We tried to warn them, that $hitler and company were not going to just deport criminals, and that's exactly what has been happening. The regime is grabbing people from restaurants, hospitals, court rooms, and people who are trying to comply with the law by going to their immigration check in appointments.
Real gang members don't pick crops in the hot sun, and they carry guns, so they are much harder to capture and arrest.
These fascist goons are taking the easy way out in order to put on a show for their hateful bigoted base. Few, if any of the people being kidnapped are criminals or have criminal records.

Seems that some of his own voters didn't believe him,
since "he's always saying a bunch of crazy shit"....

(why they would vote for a guy like that for President, is another good question)

They only care when something impacts them. Otherwise, they don't give a damn. Like psycho-/socio- paths. These people are monstrous and either lack or mock empathy.

The number of votes Trump lost by in 2020. So, it all goes back to the lie that it was illegal immigrants voting is why he lost. He can’t get over it, even though he’s re-imposed in the Oval Office.

It has been no secret for over five years that this is what Trump was going to do. I guess Scardina chose not to hear it.

the Census, for reapportionment, counts ALL of those folks and aside from other border states like AZ and California, a good chunk are also in TX & FL. So those big red states are going to lose population.

All he knows is 22 Million.

It’s the number that was on the big board behind him when some yahoo took a pot shot at him that we haven’t gotten a single detail on yet.

But in order to meet Stephen Miller's "quota", they are pulling them out of red states like mad. Getting rid of the Cuba waiver may be a death knell in FL and he even started "crying uncle" yesterday mentioning the troubles that farmers were having now... but we shall see.

In many states across the country, Immigrants work to provide for their families.

In Minnesota, there are many from India, Somalia, Nigeria, Liberia, Sudan, Kenya, Mexico, Cuba, South and Central America, etc., here with Green Cards, Naturalization papers, living and working here. They are our neighbors and friends, working hard to contribute to the society and economy in which they live.

Where I live, I have alerted the Residence Director's staff that ICE is making raids all over the Twin Cities area seeking out anyone they suspect of being here undocumented, despite the opposite. That they are not obligated to allow them in without a warrant that must be shown, state their reasons, show their faces, badges, etc.
