Tehran launched more than 100 drones at Israel on Friday morning, Israel's military said, not long after Israel announced it had begun a major operation against Iran, with a wave of airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, scientists and senior military commanders.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said in televised remarks that Iran had launched the drones, and that Israel's air defenses were already "working to intercept the threats." Later Friday, an Israeli military official told reporters that while the threat wasn't over, Israel had managed to intercept many of Iran's UAVs.
The U.S. was not involved in Israel's strikes, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, adding a warning that "Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel."
President Trump said in a post Friday morning on his Truth Social media platform that he had given Iran "chance after chance" to make a deal with the U.S. on its nuclear program, but that despite his warnings to Tehran that the alternative would be "much worse" than anything seen before, "they just couldn't get it done." "There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end," Mr. Trump said. "Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left."

Israel has intercepted virtually every Iranian weapon launched in previous large-scale attacks by the Islamic republic. The retaliatory action by Iran was long anticipated and well planned for, Defrin said.

Israeli media said the first Iranian drones were expected to reach the country's airspace around noon local time, which would be about 4 a.m. Eastern, but the IDF confirmed it was already targeting approaching drones outside Israeli airspace amid reports of air raid sirens and possible interceptions in Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

(38 posts)Iran has some of the most capable cyber-warriors out there. But Israel pioneers some of the very best cybersecurity defenses available (US Govt is a customer). So what does this mean?
If Iran has motivated hackers that cannot direct attacks specifically against Israel, I would not be surprised if they attacked more basic IT infrastructure that allows the Internet function as we know it. Iran could wait until they find themselves in a more dire situation before mounting such an attack that would effect anything from multiple counties in one geographical area at the low end to interrupting the entire Internet on the high end.

(7,772 posts)Its become obvious they dont have much of a capability to strike Israel conventionally, especially with Israels robust air defenses.
I think the biggest danger now is them attacking international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation and escalating it into something directly involving the U.S. Navy.

The IDF on Tuesday said that a Houthi missile launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory was "most likely intercepted," the military said. They noted that additional interceptors were launched due to the possibility of fallen shrapnel from the interception.
Sirens were triggered in several areas across central Israel, the IDF said.
Israeli air force aerial defense systems are operating to intercept the threat.
Israel's emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), said that following the sirens, they had received no reports of shrapnel or casualties.

And with Assad gone and Lebanon's Hezzbollah semi under control, this seemed to trigger a window to do this.
But the problem always goes back to "oil" and supply and transit along the Strait of Hormuz and you do still have that issue of Hezzbollah, who are Shia like the Iranians, and who might regroup and double down.

(444 posts)I've watched his entire catalogue several times over. He's probably one of the best history storytellers on Youtube. On top of that, his expose on the Buffalo school district abuse scandal in conjunction with the Unsubscribe podcast was amazing.
Guy's a legend.
EDIT TO ADD: "Fat Electrician" is the name of the gentleman's Youtube channel, I'm not calling him fat. I mean hell, he calls himself "Chubby Electron Guy".
Just a bit of "Covering my ass" there.

(444 posts)One of the very few of his videos that I genuinely had no inkling existed, and boy was I not disappointed. Using .50 cals as effectively laser pointers for six rocket launchers is peak American Military.
