WASHINGTON, June 13 (Reuters) - The White House earlier this month directed the Defense Department and NASA to gather details on billions of dollars in SpaceX contracts following the public blowout between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, four people familiar with the order told Reuters.
Sparking an ongoing review, the administration ordered the agencies to scrutinize Musks contracts to ready possible retaliation against the businessman and his companies, these people said. As Reuters reported on Thursday, Pentagon officials are simultaneously considering whether to reduce the role that SpaceX , Musks space and satellite company, may win in an ambitious new U.S. missile defense system.
Reuters couldnt determine whether the White House intends to cancel any of the approximately $22 billion in federal contracts SpaceX now has. But the review shows the administration is following through on a threat by Trump during his spat with Musk last week to possibly terminate business and subsidies for Musk ventures. Well take a look at everything, the president said, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on June 6.
In an email to Reuters, a White House spokesperson didnt answer questions about Musk's business, saying the Trump administration is committed to a rigorous review process for all bids and contracts. In a separate statement, a spokesperson at NASA said the agency will continue to work with our industry partners to ensure the presidents objectives in space are met. Neither SpaceX nor officials at the Defense Department responded to requests for comment.

(3,387 posts)The republican party has taken things that should be government owned and run entities like NASA and defunded them to the point that they had to outsource the work to private companies.
This is where Musk took his PayPal money (seeded with emerald slave mine money) to buy space x and other companies that do what the government should do. It's a big start up cost. So, once you start getting government contracts and buying influence, no other company has the infrastructure to take over and be compliant with the laws and regulations that the company with the contracts helped write through their lobbying arm and bribes (err... campaign contributions).
Mango Mussolini can threaten those contracts, but there is no other company that will step in.
Cyber tanks from Tesla, there are still other companies capable of taking that contract.but spaceX is likely untouchable

(5,787 posts)On edit... I wanted to say I think this is just being put out there as a distraction from all the No Kings demonstrations today. It'll make Maga happy, since most of them don't like Musk... especially after he spoke out about their lord and savior in such humiliating fashion. Nothing will come of this. Musk will lose no contracts, and they'll be buddy buddy in no time. Musk has been bowing to his lord trying to make up for his sins for a while now. trump wont let him off easy. Degradation and humiliation will continue. trump likes it that way. teaches those who break their loyalty pledges not to do it again.

From USA Today:
"Termination of clean vehicle credit." The credit was originally set to expire December 21, 2032. A provision in the bill "accelerates the expiration to December 31, 2025."
Americans would lose the ability to claim the EV tax credit in 2026.
