(20,838 posts)I doubt that the assassination of political figures will cause the (formerly) s.c. to make changes to the course they're on. They won't realize that no one is immune from murder by gun until the gun is pointed at them.
It just occurred to me: how do they know the guy i impersonating a cop? What if he's a cop, impersonating a human being?
My heart goes out to the families and survivors.

(103,884 posts)It (currently) links to a Fox 9 report for the shooting, but that says "What we don't know: We are waiting to confirm the condition of the two lawmakers and their spouses. "
The death date was added by an anonymous edit that just said "killed by some fake cop" without attribution, and that phrase, but not the date, was then removed. Don't place any weight on this anonymous claim.
... and within seconds, someone (not me) has removed the death date.

Melissa Hortman (D) and John Hoffman (D)
Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and State Representative Melissa Hortman, along with their spouses, have been shot by men dressed as police officers who showed up at their homes in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, according to law enforcement sources and local media.
The first shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on Saturday at the Champlin home of State Senator John Hoffman, a Democrat who has served in the Minnesota Senate since 2013. Hoffman suffered at least two gunshot wounds while his wife Yvette was shot three times.
A second shooting happened a few miles south, near the Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park, at the home of State Representative Melissa Hortman, who has served in the House since 2005. Shes also the Democratic leader in the Minnesota House. Both Hortman and her husband Mark were shot.
There is currently no official word on the conditions of the victims.
Police are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings who is armed and dangerous, Brooklyn Park Police said in an emergency alert sent to residents at 5:30 a.m. Suspect is white male, brown hair, wearing black body armor over blue shirt and blue pants and may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.
A second emergency alert sent at 7 a.m. confirmed that the suspect is dressed like a police officer. Do not approach and do not answer door unless two officers approach together. Call 911 to verify officer identity first, it said.....................

(279 posts)Since it was done in a state he can't pardon those murder charges, but if it was done in DC--like with the J6 felons--he could. And a friendly red-state governor with pardon power could also go along with him... It feels so chillingly inevitable. You can imagine the horrible rhetoric that will preceded the public signing ceremony.
And then it will be open season on any Democrat.
He and MAGA have broken something in the soul of this nation.
Apparently to break a soul you only need to not have one....

Because this says to me that they see this state as a real threat to their fascist plans. They also want to neutralize Tim Walz as fast as they can. Again, because they see him as a real threat.

(2,490 posts)and it had a "manifesto" which had a target list.
No word on how long said target list is/was.
Q's that come to mind:
1) How geographically far-reaching is the target list?
2) Is the target list politically diverse? Or just Democrats?
I believe there was a question about if security would be increased for today's protests. (The law enforcement authorities declined to discuss any specifics of planned security measures.)
ETA: "their/his" vehicle. Unclear if there's more than one person involved at this point.

(187 posts)How many times have we assigned blamed to rethugs for violent acts when it turns out to not be the case. In this specific case, and I am not saying this is the cause or related to it, the Minnesota budget recently passed was controversial for the fact it removed MinnesotaCare health coverage for undocumented persons over the age of 18 starting Jan 1, 2026. Hortman being the Minn Speaker of the House had a part in this passing, and Hoffman recently sided with the Minn rethugs on a vote as well.
Regardless of who did this, and I hope they are caught soon and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, my sincerest condolences for the loss of life to the family and friends and pray for the quickest and fullest recovery of the others.
