Source: CBS News

Law enforcement officials are searching for 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter in the shootings of two Minnesota politicians and their spouses early Saturday morning, sources told CBS News.

There was an extensive list of possible targets among writings found in Boelter's vehicle. The list included more than 50 individuals including officials outside of Minnesota, and including abortion rights advocates and abortion facilities.

1. Former appointee of Tim Walz sought in 'politically motivated assassination' of Minnesota lawmaker and her husband days
Sat Jun 14, 2025, 03:20 PM

A former appointee of Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is being sought in connection with the assassination of a state lawmaker and the shooting of another, police sources said.

Vance Luther Boelter allegedly posed as a police officer when he shot Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their Champlin home early Saturday, leaving them seriously injured before moving on to former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman’s house, where he is believed to have slaughtered her and her husband, sources told The Post.

The killer is still on the loose despite exchanging gunfire with officers who responded to Hortman’s home and briefly cornered him inside, though he left behind a “manifesto” listing the names of other politicians and a stack of papers stating “No Kings” in reference to the nationwide anti-Trump protests.

The attack was clearly a “politically motivated assassination,” according to Walz, but officials were mum on the motives — though it came just five days after Hortman sided with Republican leaders as the lone Democrat to cut access to state health benefits for illegal immigrants in the North Star State.

to anybody and all I do see is the reference to him being appointed to some workforce commission by Dayton and then apparently again by Walz. No criminal background and if he hadn't been a problem of some sort then there is nothing of substance to critique by media etc. about him being appointed by Walz. Although the rabid right wing want to tie this around the leg of Walz.

thus must be a lackey as that is what Trump does.

They are not going to be able to tie it to Walz no matter how much they try.. Was just appointed a person recommended by someone to a non-partisan committee.

Now Walz needs to go back and see who recommended him for the position. He may have been a holdover from the previous administration and Walz just let him stay on.

Vance Boelter was appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board in 2019 by Governor Tim Walz. He had previously served on the Governor’s Workforce Development Council, appointed in 2016 by then-Governor Mark Dayton.

While not necessarily meaningful, I see that the is an individual, most likely related, listed on Open Secrets, from Green Isle that made small contributions to a couple of republicans in the past. The individual is listed as retired.

And Vance Boelter had “no kings” protests flyers in his back seat. If this was politically motivated and Walz says, it sounds a little concerning for increased left wing radicalism, especiallly in light of the assassination of the United healthcare CEO and the assassination of the two Israeli embassy workers.

Boelter is 57 years old and, according to a law enforcement official, he works for a security company, Praetorian Guard Security.

The company website says that Boelter serves as the director of security patrols and has had training by people in the US Military.

he's also being examine for his link to Tim Walz as recent as 2019, and Investigators also found "No Kings" protest flyers in the suspect's vehicle, prompting authorities to cancel planned demonstrations across the state as a precautionary measure.

so i'll come back in a few hours and see what changes.

i'm just lamenting the fact that the wrong person instead of you know who was targeted.

according to one report and it sounds like Walz kept him on or something like that. But of course the big media just ties his appointment to Walz as though this is something Tim came up with. The NY Post is also claiming him to be a "Democratic aide" but I don't see that someone being appointed to a workforce commission of some sort is automatically an "aide" of a political party.

Many just run businesses, and it looks like they get a wide range, and I expect most are non-partisan.

https://mn.gov/deed/gwdb/about/members/

When appointed in 2019, he was a manager at a Marathon-Speedway: https://web.archive.org/web/20190707052759/https://mn.gov/deed/gwdb/about/members/
and his last recorded position, in 2022, was a manager at a 7-Eleven:
https://web.archive.org/web/20220628112456/https://mn.gov/deed/gwdb/about/members/

When he was appointed to the similarly-named Council in 2016, he was an "executive" with Northern Tier Energy:
https://web.archive.org/web/20161018023404/http://www.gwdc.org/about.html

Northern Tier Energy LP was an American downstream energy limited partnership. In addition to owning the SuperAmerica gas station and convenience store chain, it also owned an oil refinery in St. Paul Park, Minnesota and an interest in a pipeline.[1] In 2014 it ranked 525 on the Fortune 1000.[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Tier_Energy

So that might be running another convenience store.

Since the suspect had been previously appointed by the previous Republican governor,
he was reappointed by Walz merely as a "place filler"...

The 57-year-old, who has been identified as the suspected shooter by law enforcement, runs an armed security service with his wife, and has been affiliated with at least one evangelical organization, a ministry he has also run with his wife, according to a tax filing reviewed by WIRED. (His wife could not be immediately reached for comment.) According to public records and archived websites reviewed by WIRED, the suspect served for a time as the president of Revoformation Ministries. A version of the ministry’s website captured in 2011 carries a biography in which he is said to have been ordained in 1993.
...
A later version of the site was designed, according to an archived copy, by Israeli web design firm J-Town. Charlie Kalech, CEO of J-Town, tells WIRED that the alleged suspect was, in his recollection, “clearly religious and evangelistic. He had lots of ideas to make the world a better place.” The suspect, whom Kalech said was “nothing but nice to me,” commissioned J-Town, Kalech recalled, because they’re Jerusalem-based, and he said he wanted to support Israel.

A Facebook profile under the suspected shooter’s name was briefly viewed by WIRED before it was taken down. His profile had shown him “liking” several evangelical missionary organizations, as well as pages honoring Reinhard Bonnke, a German pentecostal evangelist known for missions in several African countries, and Smith Wigglesworth, a British evangelist who was influential in the pentecostal movement. He also “liked” the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal advocacy organization known for its hardline stances against abortion and LGBTQ rights.

The suspected shooter also appears to be the director of security patrols at Praetorian Guard Security Services, a security company run servicing the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro areas that he founded with his wife Jenny. The company advertises residential security patrols and uniformed security patrols. “We only offer armed security. If you are looking for unarmed guards, please work with another service to meet your needs better,” states the “red lines” section of the company’s website. The website also states that their “guards” wear the “best personal protective equipment money can buy.”

https://www.wired.com/story/shooting-minnesota-melissa-hortman-vance-boelter/

Just to point out the Praetorian Guard were infamous for using violence to either protect the Roman Emperor, or to depose him and engineer their chosen successor, who would owe them, and pay them handsomely. It's not a name that makes people think "trustworthy".
