Johnson told White House that GOP isn't interested in extending ACA subsidies

Speaker Mike Johnson has told the White House that most House Republicans have little interest in extending the Affordable Care Act's enhanced subsidies, sources familiar with the conversation told CBS News.

Johnson delivered the message in a phone call with senior administration officials as President Trump's advisers were drafting a plan to continue the subsidies for an additional two years. That plan that was initially expected to emerge this week.

The Wall Street Journal first reported Johnson's warning to the White House regarding the lack of GOP House support for the plan. Any White House health care plan would require overwhelming Republican support in the House to be enacted.

The enhanced subsidies expire at the end of this year, affecting tens of millions who benefit from them. The subsidies were at the heart of the government shutdown funding fight.

14. The significance is many of these people have

always thought of themselves as basically ok economically. Having to suddenly come up with as much as $1000 a month or more for insurance suddenly upsets whatever economic security they thought they had.

Some are people who retired before 65 without a healthcare benefit from their former employer, some are self employed.

I would bet, especially in a red state, these are not just their constituents, but their trusted supporters. I would hope they are calling them, especially if they are among the people who actually know the representative.

We were self-employed and when our health insurance premiums reached 3 times our mortgage with a huge deductible, we had to go naked. ACA Subsidies mean that the people who are ON the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT right NOW were able to AFFORD healthcare.

REPUBLICANS do not WANT to RENEW them for ANY length of time.

IF you are on the ACA and your premiums double or triple, it will be BECAUSE OF REPUBLICANS. The good news, though, is that it made tax cuts for Musk, Bezos, Thiel and Zuckerberg possible.
