Donald Trump is "illegally" creating a shortage in the U.S., and the media isn't noticing, a senator said on Saturday.
Brian Schatz, Dem of Hawaii, flagged the story the weekend after Christmas. Taking to social media, the senator said, "One of the most underreported stories of 2025 is that Trump is the first President ever to create electricity shortages on purpose."
"He is illegally canceling solar and wind, causing layoffs and price spikes, and the media is like 'wow what a showman that guy is!'" he added Saturday.
One widely followed user, journalist Lynn G. Henning, responded to Schatz's claim, saying, "No, the media isn't cheerleading for his bad energy policy, and that is most un-Senatorial (at least for you) to engage in that brand of irresponsible grandstanding." The senator quipped back on Saturday on X, "Got it thanks will be more Senatorial going forward."

(216 posts)"Isn't cheerleading"? How about "Isn't under-reporting"?

(9,319 posts)The column-inches and news hours available for reporting are clogged with all things Epstein. We live in a society that worships shiny objects. The reporting on the effects of Trump's energy policy also compares unfavorably with the reporting on Trump's tariffs.

(165,324 posts)thanks to the idiotic social media. And Democrats have been too slow to learn it, use it, and take advantage of it because every time one does, they are smacked down... and then we "lose the Millennials" and "lose the young men" and "lose every (fill in the blank) other group" who is drenched in that media, gets their info from there, AND gets indoctrinated from there.

(37,233 posts)The high costs of solar and wind are hidden are indirect and seldom acknowledged, the cost of redundancy often leading to a low ROI for the dangerous fossil fuel back up, which nonetheless is essential, as the wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine, a vast network of transmission lines (which are sometimes dangerous as they can cause fires), their short lifetimes, the intense land and material requirements.
The reality for electricity supply is that people too often believe that "electrify everything" is "green," which it is not even close to being true, that energy storage is "green," which is thermodynamic nonsense, that electric cars are "green," which is on most grids dubious if not completely untrue, and that the servers they are willing to use to order stuff, to email, to socialize are all frivolous and unnecessary.
The people in support of the orange pedophile are odious, but I really think this conspiracy theory is unworthy.
So called "renewable energy" is not sustainable, nor does it reduce costs. This unfortunate myth to the contrary has left the planet in flames, and carbon dioxide accumulations going through the roof.
