GOP rebels rebuke Trump tariffs, blocking ban on snap repeal votes

Source: The Hill

A few GOP rebels on Tuesday issued a stunning rebuke of President Trump’s tariff regime, joining with Democrats to vote down legislation that would have banned members’ ability to call snap votes to repeal the tariffs.

The rule failing to pass paves the way for Democrats to proceed with their plans to force a vote on a resolution repealing Trump’s national emergency declaration for tariffs on Canada. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is expected to force a vote on his resolution that would repeal tariffs on Canada as soon as Wednesday.

“Article I of the Constitution places authority over taxes and tariffs with Congress for a reason, but for too long, we have handed that authority to the executive branch. It’s time for Congress to reclaim that responsibility. I also oppose using the rules votes to legislate. I want the debate and the right to vote on tariffs.”

Don't know what Kiley's reason(s) are, but still. For Massey it may or may not hurt him in the primaries
In the "I am shocked! Shocked they caved." category is Rep Victoria Spartz (R) of Indiana who, "Vowed to vote against the measure." She was adamant she'd vote against it and nothing would change her mind -- she voted for it.

As a Democrat, is NOT the Chair of any committee. He IS the ranking member of the HFAC.

The Chair of the committee is Brian Mast (R), from Florida's 21st district. Who the Hell is Brian Mast?

According to Wikipedia, it's this guy:

Mast ran for reelection in 2020 against Democratic nominee Pam Keith. In August 2020 he apologized for what he called "disgusting and inappropriate jokes" that he made on Facebook in 2009 and 2011 responding to a friend and subsequent campaign manager about sex with 15-year-old girls in South Africa and an end-of-the-world pick-up line involving rape or murder.[33]

And where the Hell is the 21st Congressional district of Florida?

The district, numbered as the 18th district before the 2020 redistricting cycle, includes the Treasure Coast and northern portions of Palm Beach County.

Can you think of anyone else who might live in that county?
