Exclusive: Trump weighs pulling some US troops from Europe amid NATO strains, official says

WASHINGTON, April 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump, upset at NATO allies' failure to help secure the Strait of Hormuz and angry that his plans to acquire Greenland have not advanced, has ‌discussed with advisers the option of removing some U.S. troops from Europe, a senior White House official told Reuters on Thursday.

No decision has been made, and the White House has not directed the Pentagon to draw up concrete plans for a troop reduction on the continent, said the official, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

But the discussions alone underscore how sharply relations between Washington and its European NATO allies have deteriorated in recent months. They also suggest that a visit to the White House on Wednesday by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte failed to significantly improve transatlantic relations, which are arguably at their lowest point since NATO's 1949 founding.

The White House has publicly said that Trump has considered withdrawing from the alliance altogether. Removing troops from Europe would allow Trump to dramatically lessen Washington's security commitments on the continent, without formally withdrawing, a move that would test constitutional law.

Why are so many American troops still in Europe? That is a huge expense adding to national debt.

keeping the peace in Europe for the last eighty years.

Now we have Orban and Russian military intelligence in Hungary plotting a possible coup if Orban loses the election. Perfect time to pull our troops out, isn't it?

Yeah the thought has crossed my mind. Attack Ukraine from Hungary and Belarus too. Then with the middle east war (I call it the Epstein war) and other hot spots, we're looking at WWIII.

All because we have insane idiots running certain parts of the world.

Donald Trump demanded that Nato allies send warships to the Strait of Hormuz in a matter of days as he criticised the alliance for its inaction on Iran.

The fragile ceasefire between the US and the Islamic Republic appeared to hold on Thursday, while Israel said it would hold peace negotiations with Lebanon after waves of air strikes killed hundreds of people.

After a meeting with Mark Rutte, the Nato secretary-general, Mr Trump issued a deadline for European capitals to pledge military support for reopening the key trade route within days.

The US president said Nato had been “very disappointing”, and only acted when pressure was applied.

Not your personal army Donny. Why don't you take your chickenhawk ass down there and reopen them?
