'Unacceptable': Italian PM slams Trumps Pope comments
Story by Ryan Grenoble 2h
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni unequivocally criticized President Donald Trump Monday for engaging in a bizarre feud with Pope Leo XIV, calling Trumps attacks unacceptable.
I find President Trumps words regarding the Holy Father to be unacceptable, Meloni, a close ally of Trump, said in a terse written statement.
"The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and it is right and normal for him to call for peace and to condemn every form of war," she concluded.
Trump went after the pope in a lengthy social media message over the weekend, calling him WEAK on Crime and terrible for Foreign Policy, apparently in response to Leo using his office to support the idea of global peace.

Thank you Meloni!!
BREAKING : Italian 🇮🇹 Georgia Meloni becomes the first PM in the world to belt Trump for his remarks on Pope 🔥
🇺🇸 Trump "The Pope is weak against crime and he is not doing his job well. He is terrible for foreign policy"
🇮🇹 Meloni 🔥 "Trump's words toward the Holy Father are unacceptable. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and it is right and normal for him to call for peace and to condemn every form of war"
Trump expected support at Strait of Hormuz from Meloni but she's exposing his hypocrisy instead 🤣

(18,817 posts)Trump thinks he's still running against Hillary and Kamala. He attacked Hillary's foreign policy record in 2016, describing it as a "disaster," accusing her of bringing "death, destruction, terrorism and weakness" to the Middle East. In 2024 he said Kamala was "weak on crime," citicizing her record as a prosecutor and U.S.-Mexico border policies.

What Meloni doesn't understand that he has to be fighting SOMEONE at all times. He thrives on chaos, on Stigginit. Picking a fight with Il Papa?
Better to talk about that than Epstein or his absolute idiotic fucking over of the entire planet's economy.

She may still be conservative according to European standards. But that conservatism is seen as liberal in the US.

(8,281 posts)Little reported in the US was that Meloni and the Italian far right suffered their own election a few weeks ago: they were trying to politicize the judiciary in a much pushed referendum. It failed miserably, when it was supposed to be close.
Meloni was Orban's greatest friend in Europe. She embraced him completely.
She knows that even she, looking like she would be a 15 year premier just a year ago, is now on thin ice, especially as the Italian rage at the Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon promises to turn an already vibrant movement among the youth into a wide social movement. How many Americans know that Italian military serve as peacekeepers in southern Lebanon for years, or that they are fired on regularly by the IDF?
Meloni knows now for a stone fact that Trump will drag her down even in Italy. She's going to cut him loose.

(158 posts)As far as I know the pope does not negotiate form policy or have anything to do with crime. He makes statements on
moral obligations and conditions, calls out what he sees as non-Christ like behavior. Sets the tone for the Catholic church.
He has no power to compel anyone to do as he says. Maybe Dick-less Donnie needs his so called spiritual/religious true
believers to explain it to him. Oh well what do I know?

NAH!!!
(Actually, perhaps we should refer to him as His Ignorance in the third-person context, and Your Ignorance in the first-person context.)
