The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced this years inductees: Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan will join the class of 2026 in the Performer category.
Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons will be presented with the Early Influence Award; Philly Soul songwriter Linda Creed, producer Arif Mardin, producer Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award; and Ed Sullivan will be given the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

(There were some notable snubs this year, including New Edition, who won the largely symbolic fan vote. Pink and Shakira placed third and fourth, and also didnt make it in.)

It remains to be seen whether Phil Collins, Oasis, and Iron Maiden will attend the ceremony. Similar questions loom around Sade, who rarely grants interviews or performs live, and Joy Division/New Order, who have been estranged from bassist Peter Hook for two decades.

Liam Gallagher of Oasis told their fans NOT to vote for them. And Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden once said - as the article reminds us - that the HoF is "run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldnt know rock & roll if it hit them in the face."
But the article also reminds us that artists have trashed the HoF before being inducted, then showed up and expressed gratitude at the ceremony.
We'll see...

(Yes, I know it's from the film, I just like the scene - and my favorite Joy Division song)

(694 posts)and I'm excited it's in LA again and not NY. We've gone to the LA ceremony twice and once in Cleveland and I just didn't feel like heading to NY if this year was a good class.

(394 posts)are better than I thought they'd be based on the fan vote, which, sorry, was a JOKE. Edited to add: about damn time for Iron Maiden. Judas Priest is LONG overdue (they got one of the "side" awards a couple years ago but not full induction). While I don't care for Billy Idol's music, no denying he's deserving of induction.
That said, The Black Crowes were in the running and that's a HUGE snub. Countless hits and carrying on the torch from Humble Pie.
Until The Sweet and The Monkees are inducted, though, RRHOF will remain a joke.
