I don't think it's fear at all

I think he has a deep lifelong belief that women are far lesser than men and that they literally have no value other than sex and babies. He’s disgusted by female anatomy aside from a few square inches and believes women have no place in public life or even in private life if they have any sense of self which exists outside that granted by men.
