'Scott Pelley Alleges CBS Asked Him To 'Inject Falsehoods' Into Story After '60 Minutes' Firing--Full Statement'
(Forbes) "In his statement shared with several outlets, Pelley hailed '60 Minutes,' calling it the 'most successful program of any kind in history' and touting its recent ratings successes."
"The senior journalist said the weekly shows success was a result of the audience finding 'integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories,' before accusing CBSs new ownerLarry Ellisons Skydance Mediaof casting this aside to 'curry a moment of favor' with the Trump administration."
"Pelley was fired 'for cause' by the shows new executive producer, Nick Bilton, after clashing with him over the firing of his long-time colleagues and telling Bilton he had 'slender' qualifications for the job.
In his statement, Pelley lamented the 'waste is heartbreaking,' and said '60 Minutes' lost its DNA after its entire senior leadership and two of his on-air colleagues Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vegawere 'cruelly fired without cause.' "
"He said they were silenced for standing against 'the forces of political bias' before alleging that the new management instructed him to 'inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story,' which he claims he ignored."

(19,547 posts)(Scott Pelley) "For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. Ive been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all."
