It's likely an ingrown nail on my left foot. I'm fine without shoes but once I'm in them the pain starts.
I guess I'm getting old. Never had a problem with my feet.
I'm calling the foot and ankle center nearby tomorrow morning to get an appointment. Lucky for me that I am in a retirement center that has a car service that will take me and pick me up.
I shudda taken care of this earlier but I thought it would just go away!!!

(25,994 posts)Went to a podiatrist two years ago and he suggested I have the nail removed. Nope. I fortunately found a pedicurist who knows how to clean and cut the nail, keeping it as short as possible with not too much pain while she digs at it! Ive been told lots of senior centers have someone to help take care of ingrowns. Hope you get some relief 🌺

(1,299 posts)When he and fellows got an ingrown toenail, they would cut off a corner of a playing card, wedge it under the nail, then tape it up.
It works, Ive done it numerous times with my big toes.
Not always very comfortable, but lifting the nail above the skin gives it a chance to heal quickly and greatly reduces the pain.
Peroxide the area, put some type of first-ointment (just a little) on the area, cut the playing card corner and slide it under the nail (this can be painful). Put bandage on top of the card once the card is in place, tape it up mummy-like.
