(34,795 posts)BBC World Service* puts me to sleep. I'm sure it's the voices of the announcers. They're so understated. Very British.
Whatever the reason, it works for me.
The piano keeps me awake. Too many bad piano lessons memories of doing Hannon over and over and over and over... For me it's the stuff of nightmares.
I also have a sound machine. Princess Floof falls asleep to the bird song setting. But when the wrens hit the windowsill every morning, it's all hands on deck. 😄

(34,795 posts)Her koala bear premie size onesie with a sweater over it. She's so excited for that onesie she even lets me snap it on. It's a real onesie, and I only do the side snaps so her tail can go through the middle. She thinks that she is really special and she is absolutely correct in her assumptions.
Love you, SL. Thank you for your reply. ❤️

(3,703 posts)Just read this on Bluesky and then your post. Sleep well. Sometimes box breathing works. Breathe in for 4 slow counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.
Or the 4 6 7 breathing in for 4. Hold for 6. Exhale for 7.
I cried today.

Not because Iâm weak.
Not because I canât handle it.
But because no human being was meant to live through years of war and remain untouched.
Sometimes tears are not a sign of weakness.
They are proof that your heart is still alive.

(2,734 posts)I've no doubt my brain was processing deep thoughts beyond my ken...
I did breathing... I did gratitude... I drank warm tea... I straightened all
the wrinkles from the sheets... I wrapped up my head in my Sleepphones...
At some point, I fell asleep... Woke up 6 hours later...
Feeling surprisingly well, all things considered...
Have a lovely day... Thanks for chiming in...

(12,231 posts)It's been working for me mixing a small amount with other beverages (no alcohol). Unfortunately, I'm about out.
I'm going to purchase some glass decanters or pitchers for the next event.

(55,657 posts)And still can only sleep 4 hours. Insomnia has ruined my life in many ways.

(34,795 posts)I am in the same boat. I'm lucky if I get five hours. I'm going to ask my doctor for something to help me sleep. I'm getting really cranky between that and hot flashes and pain.
Stay encouraged, BigmanPigman.

(38,675 posts)I embraced zolipidem as a panacea when it came to market branded as Ambein, particularly as a tool to deal with jet lag when I was a road warrior with lots of trips to Europe.
I still take it occasionally, but I've handed control of the bottle to my wife. In my hands it was habit forming, and often led to confusion whereupon I would take a second pill not remembering I'd already taken one earlier. This was very problematic.
I know when the OTC stuff will fail to work, and if it's before or around midnight I will graduate to zolipidem, kept in a container that I will leave empty on the counter to clue me in that I've taken this last resort. Otherwise I'll accept that I'm not going to sleep and will work or read.
I guess if you take it every night you can handle it better than I do, but I am posting for anyone unfamiliar with the stuff so as to make them aware that some people can have problems with this drug. It is not a panacea for insomnia.

(16,817 posts)He's bought things off the TV late at night and did not realize it till it showed up at his door.
He once woke up eating dried mushrooms and had very long pleasant day.
You have to be careful with that stuff.

(55,657 posts)Do you remember when Roseanne made a racist comment and blamed it on Ambien and said she didn't remember saying anything like that? It's why they took her off her on show. The Ambien manufacturers were funny with their reply..they said that Ambien does have the side effect of forgetting stuff but it doesn't have a side effect of making you racist.

(55,657 posts)The first time I took it I made and ate and cleaned up a whole dinner at 1AM and didn't remember any of it. That's when I decided to take 1/2 at a time (1/2 at bedtime and 1/2 when I wake up 4 hours later, sometimes that works) and I ALWAYS write down how much I take and at what time.
