I recently watched the 2016 remake of "The Magnificent Seven" and was very disappointed.
Even Denzel Washington and Vincent D'Onofrio couldn't save that pile of crap.
Also, the original "Seven" had that great Henry Mancini theme music, which was used to sell Marlboro cigarettes on TV.

Edward G. was becoming more of a character actor than a lead at that point of his career. Fred MacMurray played 1st of his 3 repellent roles, the other 2 were The Caine Mutiny and The Apartment.

He was practicing touch and go maneuvers in the Phoenix. It buckled and flipped, he died instantly. You can notice that a different plane was used in the ending scenes. He was also known for taking off and landing solo a B-17 in a belly landing in 12 O' Clock High.

Cryptic clue:

A coal miner and bootlegger from the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee where he fought against the Ku Klux Klan, and is a descendant of Mountain Man, Jim Bridger.

Who somehow invented warp drive at the same time.

His character is a testament and allegory for how even the most flawed individuals can do heroic things (even if they dont mean to)
