Tonight on Amanpour and Company, Friday, June 5th, 2026
Joseph Aoun
President of Lebanon
A U.S.-mediated ceasefire in Lebanon appears to be having little effect. Four people were killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon on Friday, and Hezbollah says it is continuing to target Israeli troops. The ceasefire, announced on Wednesday, is contingent on a "complete cessation of Hezbollah fire and the evacuation of all Hezbollah operatives" from southern Lebanon. On Thursday Hezbollah rejected those terms. Christiane Amanpour met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut for an exclusive interview. Aoun, who rarely speaks with foreign media, is taking this step to send a message to the world about the fate of his nation.
Kristen Holmes
Senior White House Correspondent
A $70 billion bill to fund President Trump's immigration crackdown nearly collapsed in the Senate over the Justice Department's $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund," which critics call a "slush fund" for the President's allies. Meanwhile a judge ordered Trump's name to be stripped from the Kennedy Center as the White House pivots to the nation's 250th birthday celebration. Senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes joins Bianna Golodryga with the latest news from Washington.
Eddie Glaude Jr.
Author, "America, U.S.A."
The United States is now just a month out from its 250th anniversary on July 4th, and White House plans for the celebration are still in flux. This is not the first big celebration to be shadowed by America's conflicts and contradictions. In the new book "America, U.S.A.," scholar Eddie Glaude Jr. argues that these major milestones have never been simple. They become moments to reckon with painful truths particularly pertaining to race. Glaude is a professor at Princeton University. He speaks with Bianna about his views on America at 250.
Craig Fehrman
Author, "This Vast Enterprise"
"Astronauts in canoes" is how one historian describes the legendary exploration team of Lewis and Clark, whose Corps of Discovery Expedition is one of the country's most renowned tales. Author Craig Fehrman takes a fresh look at the narrative in his new book "This Vast Enterprise." Fehrman joins Walter Isaacson to discuss new information uncovered from centuries-old archives.
