Mainers will vote on proposed red flag law this election

STATEWIDE -- Come November, Mainers will be tasked with voting on whether or not to implement a "Red Flag" law. The referendum question has sparked intense debate across the state over the effectiveness of Maine's current gun safety measures.

This election, Maine voters face a critical issue.

Question 2 on the ballot will ask voters if they want to establish a red flag gun law, also known as an Extreme Risk Protection Order.

If it passes, family or household members could directly petition a judge to temporarily restrict a person's access to firearms if they are suspected of being a danger to themselves or others.
