SPOTLIGHT RACE: :Chedrick Greene for MI-SD35 (Special Election)

U.S. Marine Veteran, Fire Captain, son, brother, and father — Chedrick Greene is running for State Senate District 35 to make life more affordable and bring better opportunities to mid-Michigan.

Born and raised in Saginaw, Chedrick is a lifelong resident with deep community roots, a big heart for helping his neighbors, and the leadership needed to help Lansing work better for our families.

His dad worked as a short-haul trucker and drove buses for Saginaw Public Schools. His mom worked as a customer sales rep for a GM auto supplier. Chedrick’s parents raised him to value service, know hard work, and that there’s dignity in all jobs.

During a 30-year career of decorated service with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Chedrick served in a dozen nations, including deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He achieved the highest rank possible for enlisted officers — Sergeant Major E-9 — and earned multiple honors, including:

- MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL
- NAVY AND MARINE CORPS COMMENDATION MEDAL WITH COMBAT VALOR
- COMBAT ACTION RIBBON

Chedrick recently worked as District Assistant for our Michigan Senate District 35 Office— representing then-State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet at meetings and events, monitoring legislative developments and constituent relations.

In March 2023, Governor Whitmer appointed Chedrick to serve a two-year term on the Statewide Housing Partnership under the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Chedrick’s work and service experiences have given him:

- A deep understanding of the challenges families face
- A deep appreciation for how personal responsibility, collective action, government, and strong leadership all play a part in how we rise or fall.

Overlapping his military service, Chedrick has worked with the City of Saginaw Fire Department for more than 26 years, leading as Fire Captain and Community Relations Liaison.

In his liaison role, he has dedicated time to:

- East Side Soup Kitchen
- Muscular Dystrophy Association
- City of Saginaw
- Cathedral District’s Children’s Festival
- Saginaw Public Schools
- And more

Love of country and community defines Chedrick’s life’s work and will shape his leadership as the next State Senator serving Senate District 35.

He will lead on what we need most in this moment:

- LOWER COSTS
- BETTER JOBS
- STRONGER SCHOOLS
- SAFER COMMUNITIES
-PROTECTED FREEDOMS

First of all, as a brand spanking new user, thank you for the well written summary. Special state legislative elections certainly need more attention then they have been getting lately. Luckily, that's changing this year.

Does this forum have a mega thread for upcoming state legislative special elections? I am rather clueless to how things are organized, so if somebody could point me to an appropriate directory, that would be appreciated.

Also, I wanted to start a thread on some Michigan state legislative races as soon as I am able to, but I am not sure which place would be the best to do this.

Finally, is there an introduce yourself thread somewhere in this community?

Any assistance to a DU newbie would be welcome.

You can introduce yourself to our community in The DU Lounge.

Also, I wanted to start a thread on some Michigan state legislative races as soon as I am able to, but I am not sure which place would be the best to do this.

You can post such threads in the State Forums or in General Discussion. The state forum posts will appear on the Latest or Greatest pages.

I hope this helps you get started. I am glad you are here; we need all the help we can get with the upcoming elections.

Welcome.

Thank you for the information. I will check out the DU Lounge to see if there are any threads that I can respond to.

I anticipate that I will make some epic posting mistakes in DU before I can get the hang of this community, so I hope that my head won't be bitten off for posting in wrong places when I get the ability to start some new threads.

Is there a multiple reply/quote feature to respond to several users at once? Not sure if there is a way that I can do it here, but maybe this is because of my low intelligence on how this forum works.

The Lounge is good for introducing yourself but not a political forum. Those discussions would be found and should be posted in GD and/or State Forums, The Way Forward etc.

No, sorry, there is no feature to reply to multiple people at once.

Welcome to DU.

Appreciate the information.

Going to be careful on what I put on my profile. Whatever I put will be vague enough to be next to impossible to figure out who I am.

I don't want the U.S. Gestapo, hackers, or other bad actors to (easily) be able to find out my true identity and other personal info based on what I put down there. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I feel there is a nonzero chance of police arresting me for some fabricated reason that they can make up from what I post. I have personally had enough law enforcement encounters last year to last me for a good while.

Hope everyone can understand the reasoning.

There are forums for each state where one can discuss special elections in that state. The original post for this thread is in the Michigan forum. There are DU forums on elections and campaigns that have some posts but are not heavily followed.

Special elections are strange animals where only members in that district may vote (and these districts may be in process of changing). My oldest child just voted in the special election for Texas CD-18 to pick the successor for Congressman Sylvester Turner but will be voting in Texas CD 9 for the next primary and general election to the Texas gerrymander.

The best place for threads on upcoming elections can be in both General Discussion and the applicable state forum.

Again, welcome to DU
